***OKIES in the BYC III ***

First of 3 Blue Orpington chicks this morning. Sad that I am not home to see the others hatch. I have some Wheaten Marans that are hatching as well! Very excited.

Aww, sweet tiny wet baby! I got my 10-egg Brinsea the other day and set Modern Bantam eggs & LF Faverolles from my very own chickens. So this will be an exciting hatch if any hatch. It's so addicting.
I sure love the Wheaten and Blue Wheaten color in birds.

Morning everyone. Going to be hot and possibly stormy today. I am off to the nursing home. No they aren't admitting me....yet! My wife wanted me to bring a pot of thick chille ,they are haveing chille dogs for the staff today. I told her it was the wrong time of year for that! Also taking baby bunnys and chicks for the residents to look at. Hope they survive(the critters!) I'd hate to have to swat an old geezer or geezerett for squezzing the babys to hard!lol. Have agreat day!
All my life I've always thought the worst part of being in a nursing home would be not having animals around. I just don't think it would be worth staying alive if I couldn't have some sort of animal. It's going to make their day to see the babies.

Thinking I'll just start building stuff and then decide what/how to plant. At least I'll get that area cleared out for runs. My DH will be so thrilled.

I will bring a poultry nipple waterer for the raffle. I'll get a pic to you when I get it made. Have to get more buckets next time I'm at the store.

ok guys- we have hatchlings- 3 so far- how long do i leave them in the bator ...to dry? coral is hatching some for me too- joes beauties- didn't want to risk those with inexperience- so here is a pic of the first guy... will they hurt the pipping eggs by knocking them around?

Our neighbor drove by on his tractor today. He had his tiller hooked up on the back and was asking folks if they wanted a garden spot tilled. He apologized for not coming around sooner, but he'd been moving cattle for his sister, and wasn't able to get any tractor work done. He'd just finished tilling for our neighbor to the north and our other neighbor to the east today, and he assured me it would be no trouble. I pointed to the spot I'd planned to turn and he had it finished in ten minutes. I traded him two peach trees for the work. I'm always pleasantly surprised by the generosity of those around me.

Been quiet today only took me a moment to catch up. Had a busy day so far, sitting drinking an iced coffee & going to spend the rest of my afternoon running errands. Took all DH's drills lunch. Made ham, baked beans, corn on cob, devil eggs & yeast rolls. The guys love me bringing them lunch, but starting to run out of ideas. I try to take something every 2 wks & needs to be easy enough for me to prepare, transport, and keep warm on my 40 min drive for 20 guys. Would be much easier if I didn't had to drive so far & keep the food @ proper temp.

Tomorrow is going to be an all day planting day in the garden, took me 4 days to recover from the asparagus planting last weekend. I can finally bend over without any pain. Gardening is a great way to work those muscles we forget about.

Congrats on the new babies! I leave my hatcher closed until the majority are hatched and completely dry. I don't move chicks until they are fluffy and puffy. Consider that chicks can be in a box in the mail for three days without food or water. It's okay if they stay in your incubator for a day until they are completely dry before moving them to your brooder. It's tough on the remaining eggs if you open too often to remove chicks. You won't be able to keep the necessary humidity for the chicks that haven't hatched yet.

I heard a muffled peep from the hatcher about an hour ago. I think your clutch may be pipping. Today is the day I've marked on my calendar for the early birds. Tomorrow is when I expect the largest portion to hatch.

Sure a bunch of us Okies on the board. I'm just saying HI! NO, NOT STAYING HIGH. SAYING HI >>> Trying to raise Partrige Rocks (19 of em) 1 lonesome Dominique hen (only survivor of 5), 143
Coturnix quail (in the incubator) and 12 Serama ( also in the bator).
Some body on this board said they thought they would just start building and see what happens.
That's exactly what I do and I've never had a problem filling the cages.
Spring is here! congrats on all the new babies to everyone...
