***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We have poke salad ALL over our place. I will be cooking some in a few wks. My grandma use to make my grandpa drive all over the farm to collect poke salad.
Got a foraging book today at goodwill. Stalking the wild asparagus, inside the book there ate neatly folded magazine articles from family circle magazine in 1973 about gathering wild food. Very neat find!! I have had the book on my wishlist for a while. I still would like the current version since it has color photos, but I can always google the photos when I doubt!

My Grandmother always boiled it 3 times to make it safe to eat I've found you don't have to do that really but the fewer times you boil and drain it the better it is as a natural laxative LOL

I don't even know what poke salad is and after reading this I don't think I want to know.

I'm looking forward to hatch day tomorrow I never did get my hatchers set up in time for this one dealing with all the flooring was time consuming to say the least, I'll have them ready for next round though, I let my goats out to graze most every evening and also opened up the house for fresh air today the little buggers found the open door and helped themselves to a tour the look on my dogs face was priceless like

Umm are we gonna allow this?!?! I wish I had a camera going when the billy discovered her food bowl Princess looked at me with utter disgust

LOL I guided them back out before she spazzed completely out,

Princess sounds like my kind of dog lol!
I mowed most the day. I love mowing more than I like about anything.

Our neighbor drove by on his tractor today. He had his tiller hooked up on the back and was asking folks if they wanted a garden spot tilled. He apologized for not coming around sooner, but he'd been moving cattle for his sister, and wasn't able to get any tractor work done. He'd just finished tilling for our neighbor to the north and our other neighbor to the east today, and he assured me it would be no trouble. I pointed to the spot I'd planned to turn and he had it finished in ten minutes. I traded him two peach trees for the work. I'm always pleasantly surprised by the generosity of those around me.

Very special neighbor! That is the antidote for some of the ugliness I see at my work!

hey guys, this poor little EE chick is trying to hatch out of the small end... what is the deal with these ee's? Should i give him overnite? or go ahead and 'help' which i hate doing?

Sure a bunch of us Okies on the board. I'm just saying HI! NO, NOT STAYING HIGH. SAYING HI >>> Trying to raise Partrige Rocks (19 of em) 1 lonesome Dominique hen (only survivor of 5), 143
Coturnix quail (in the incubator) and 12 Serama ( also in the bator).
Some body on this board said they thought they would just start building and see what happens.
That's exactly what I do and I've never had a problem filling the cages.
Spring is here! congrats on all the new babies to everyone...

Welcome!

I've been hunting Morels a couple times this past weekend I've found about 20 so far just in the woods where I live, I think I'm going to have to make some time to try to gather a load this weekend since there isn't an auction I haven't looked for them in several years and this is the first year I found them close to the house, If anyone has them around their place and just have to have someone come get them I would be more than happy to oblige

Yum, my dad used to find them.

A chick from a Mille Fleur pullet and my nice Black Mottled roo hatched under a surrogate Buff pullet today.

The roo has very nice type but is a little long in the tooth so I wasn't sure he is fertile. I got him at Maud auction and couldn't believe someone would get rid of him, especially with the very nice Blue mottled pullet he came with. When I saw that he was old I thought maybe that was why he was at the auction. I took a chance and got them. I call him Pappy. I have been looking for good Black Mottled with to improve the type of my Mille Fleurs. I didn't need the Blue girl but she is too pretty to part with.
