***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks to a tip from JCatblum, I discovered that Michael bought some of those gorgeous white Cochin hens that Bo brought to the Newcastle sale. We had to leave before the girls made it to the auction table. Michael has agreed to sell me two of them....I'm in Heaven!!!

This will still leave me time to decide what other colors I want to get from Bo this fall.

I think I'll have to agree with my hubby..... obsession!

Don't think I would call them gorgeous! LOL They were dirty and rooster worn to say the least. They will molt out and be pretty again this fall. Great meeting you NanaKat, you are a sweet lady and I hope you hatch many blue cochins from those eggs you fought so hard to get.

Thank you Bo! The eggs are in the incubaor already...can't wait! I looked beyond the dirt and worn feathers and saw the beauty of their good breeding.

How many other vices provide breakfast?

I just love my Buff roo! I didn't get a White hen, was just carrying it for Muesky. I wish I could have more LF but will just have to be happy with my Buff pair for now.

Thanks to JCatblum and her DH for coming over this evening and helping out. They took away all my extra lumber laying around and helped get the brush hog on my tractor so I can use it this week. Such a great couple... THANK YOU SO MUCH!

We left the Newcastle auction last night at 12 am and with the four hour drive back to SE OK we got in at 4 am. Immediately went out to check on hatching chicks and geese and found that I had two more gray toulouse goslings hatching. Now these are geese that in 6 years of breeding them I have only managed to get three goslings hatched and now I am about to have three in a single year!!! I am glad to have them hatching so well this year.
Hope everyone had a safe trip home and look forward to seeing you again.

Finally got caught up! didn't get a chance to get on last night, just to tired. Had a great day at the auction. WE arrived early, like 5:30 thinking to get our stuff sold early so we could cash out befoer going home. Which we did only to learn it wouldn't have mattered because they don't pay out on sale day but mail checks out two weeks later!. But it was worth getting there early to see all the neat stuff.
And this sale like all the others in this area is growing,it was their biggest ever. You wouldn't know people were broke from the way they bid on stuff! Saw lots of neat birds, rabbits, pigeons, goats, pigseven a baby lllama! This sale seems to have a better quality of birds than the other Amish sale here. There were some really exceptional show birds and some just plain old ugly farm birds! Saw the biggest chicken I ever saw. It was a show quality white plymouth rock. I bet he weighed 20pounds! He was the size of a small turkey. Speaking of which I saw my first midget turkeys, these were a trio of royal palms, and a bronze tom. The toms were only the size of a small hen turkey and the hens about the size of a heavy breed chicken! I wanted the trio so bad and told my buddy I would bid as high as $25 each to get them. They went for $52 each!
I ended up bringing home two trios of golden polish(going to make it a trio and get rid of the extra roo.) and three rabbits. All were harlequins, two does and a buck. And a pair of pigeons. And I sold more than I bought so that was good!
It was terribly cold when we got there but by mid day it was sunny and hot.Several birds and rabbits died because they weren't able to get them all in the shed out og the sun. They finally had to add a thrid auctioneer on just the poultry shed! We left at 4 and there was enough stuff to last at least two more hours withe the three auctioneers! And this was just the poultry, small animals etc. The cages, goats, pigs sold under another auction ring! And then there were 7 other auction rings on junk, farm impliments, tools, building supplies, etc. I heard someone guess the crowd at 5000!
But it was a day of great fun for me. I was running from one auctioneer to the other trying to keep up with stuff I wanted to bid on!There was so much to see and learn and even teach a few things to people who ask questions. Poultry and critters seems to equal out everyone and most all people are interesting to talk to at these sales. Well sorry for the long post. and I hate it that I forgot to take my camera so I could get some pics.

sounds like a perfect setup, special needs birds do wonderfully with extra care

nana- this girl has drawn blood many times... and she is the sweetest girl normally

so far 4 have hatched and one more is half way there- seems older sibling is finding it a tough job to monitor the 'kids'
