The ducks can go in with the chickens without any issues while they are young. However, once they reach breeding age they will try to mate with the chickens and that would kill them. Our duck actually drowned one of our chickens by pulling it into his pond with him (before we knew any better). Hope that helps!

Well I guess we will make them a small yard of there own then. No sense putting them in there to move them later. I was a little afraid my rooster might try to mate with them if they're girls anyway. LOL

They say You can tell by how many rows of pin feathers there are on the wings. I seen this on a thread with pictures. I don't know how accurate that is. But we did it on our hatched chicks and i guess we Will see when they are older. I believe its one row its a boy then two rows a pullets.
I noticed that wierd sound. I didn't know who was making it. It's cute until its 3 am. LOL but the light Brahma is constantly fighting with the dark one. Worries me. Idk if that's normal.

That might be what they call feather-sexing but it only works right after they're born. You had my hopes up for a minute haha!
Put one or the other chick in with another group and see if it helps. Otherwise I'll take one of them back if you want me to

It may not be 100 degrees today, but the peacock is inside his shelter dust bathing in the shade & 2 girls are in the nesting boxes panting. The humidity is brutal! And the wind is actually barely blowing. Time to get the coop fan set up I guess.

Long time no post. Seems like everytime things seem like they are going to calm down... Bam!!! Craziness!

I am going to stop at Lowes and get a sprinkler hose today because I know the birds are going to need it soon. The one I purchased from Habitats for Humanities 4 years ago finally bit the dust this year, but considering I only paid .25$ for it, I can not complain about it much.
Will probably being taking the side panel off the coop next week. Especially since I have 7 broodies camped out in the coop sitting eggs for me. Keep telling them they are earning their paychecks by hatching eggs for me since they are not laying. Wonder why they keep giving the roosters stink eye????

Was wondering about a few contest at poops. Kinda like the fair. Prettiest egg, darkest, smallest, biggest, oddest, etc. I know the kids would love it. We could set up a table & let people vote??? Any objections? I could organize it & set up a table. Maybe we could give out prizes for winners.

Oh, I am so going to see if one of the feed stores can start carrying it around here.

I was just reading about a lady who crosses her Faverolles with Ameraucana to get super-bearded blue/green egg laying Easter Eggers and I'm intrigued. Rebecca, me and you might talk about this since we both like the same breeds and want a big docile bearded blue egg layer. That would be some pretty EE's with great passive temperaments and be BIG. I don't eat my birds but I don't hold it against others for eating them and they'd be a good size for that. Breeding 2 bearded birds would definitely give nice beards and the blue egg gene is dominant. This might be something to think about.
Has anyone tried it?

Boy if it aint one thing, its another. Yesterday the tomatoes dodged a hail storm. We will see if they are so lucky today. I heard a little tractor and looked out. One niebor was going down his fence line just spraying up a storm for weeds. His fence is on east side of garden, wind of course out of NE. People and their **** chemicals.
