This is an old heritage variety...can't remember the name, but it was my grandfather's favorite. May have "waltz in the name.....

Tomorrow the baby chicks won't be able to be outside at all since Gary and I both will be gone all day. So Gary and I set them up w/ a brooder in a storage area, they have a window to outside, and it is a very large dog kennel filled w/ sand and I dug up some grass clumps and put them in so the floor is half grass and half sand we even put a couple of roosts for them. Hopefully that will keep them occupied for most of the day w/o to much psychological trauma. Before I get accused of spoiling them just remember Nanakat has swamp coolers on hers ......................... (sorry to throw you under the bus Nanakat!!!! lol lol lol)

Bawahahahahaaaaa... inspiration for spoiling those chicks!

I just got an email from my brother in California. He finished making my chicken plucker, and he posted a video. I'm stunned at the detail work. Take a look at the laser cut initials near the handles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WKf6dRoWkw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

That is so Cool!

They came from my husbands grandmother, I'm pretty sure I have maroon & yellow also but I can't remember where & haven't seen them bloom yet.

The green egg gene is dominant and there are chickens that lay green eggs without having a beard or muff. I have a NN that lays a pretty green egg. We have a bantam hen that is a cross between a silkie and a EE bantam roo. The EE bantam roo hatched out of eggs OkCarla got from Okla Doodle. The silkie x EE hen has bright blue ear lobes and lays a very small green egg. All that to say - cross breed chickens are fun to identify.

Ok, dumb question. I'm not familiar with all the abbreviations used on this board yet, so what does NN and EE stand for? One of the hens looks like a welsummer and the other one resembles a barnvelder. Both are flighty and standoffish and hate to be handled. Eventually, they will both probably go to the sale, but they are consistent layers and I'm in no hurry to "purify" the flock yet! And, the sizzles are something I've wanted to try for ever since the first time I read about them.

They will probably all hatch out with smooth feathers, blue ear lobes and have six toes on each foot!

NN stands for Naked Neck also known as turkens
EE stands for Easter Egger and is what any chicken is that lays a blue/green egg, but isn't a pure Ameracauna

I was able to check my bee's today, needed to make sure they got the queen free & they did!!!
yes I put a hole in it getting the queen cage out.

don't worry about the hole in the foundation. The bees will fix it.

What really got me is the "related" videos youtube brought up on the side bar were all about body building. Hmmm chicken plucker= body building yes that makes sense.
