***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Did a walk through of the garden, some of it is looking great, one bed of tomatoes in particular is awesome, and a couple of volunteer vining squash that are going to take over the world, seriously w/ blossoms the size of my head!!! The okra is struggling, and the cantaloupe. I planted a lot of rat tail radish as companions to cuberits, this last fall and this spring is my first ever planting of radish, which I am beginning to think is a mistake, I have been hit w/ flea beetles for the first time ever. And I found my first squash bug eggs today on one of my small patty pan squash plants!!!!

Is there a beneficial insect that would help with those squash bugs??

Well we had a couple of stray dogs visit this morning. They killed a Shamo pullet and rooster and hurt one of Jared's OEG roosters.
They totally destroyed one pen and somehow pulled the other through the wire.
I have the extra tables and grill loaded and ready to head over to the park but I guess I will wait til morning to take them.
Gotta get all of the little stuff in order now.
I won't be on much today but will try and check in when I can.
If you have questions about POOPS send me a PM!
Oh I am so sorry. That is terrible.

Sorry, I just had to say that!
That sounds wonderful!!!

Monty, I'm so sorry about your birds. Stray dogs have killed more of my animals the past 20 yrs than anything else.

I called the Stillwater Vet College Avian Dept and they're going to see my Faverolles baby at 3:00 this afternoon! I'm so happy!. If something can be done to help her I'll do it. I've had hip surgery and stomach surgery done on dogs and cats. I'm not going to let the fact that she's a bird stop me. They said they'd love to see her, a bird's a bird, they see chickens all the time. There's also a surgery for this condition if she's got it bad enough that surgery can be done. You all laugh all you want, we all have our priorities

Thank you for the suggestion, Deanne!

Monty sorry about the attack. Hopefully the dogs won't revisit.

Mitzi so glad they are able to see her quickly. Will be interesting to see if they give the same opinion.

Mike good luck @ Mary's tomorrow.

A few, but suprisingly not many. The biggest ones are preditory spiders which I lovingly welcome into my garden, a cousin to the squash bug a type of preditory stink / assasin bug which is harder to lure and welcome then the spiders. That is about it for insects. I had a thought this year while watching the NN chickies in their nursery run, that I thought I was going to have to wait next year to try, but as it turns out I may get to try this year. I thought if I let several young chicks loose in the squash beds after the squash is big enough they can't hurt it much, they would be small enough to get under and close to the stem centers where the squash bugs live and eat all of the young nymphs (maybe even the adults) w/o to much damage to the plants themselves. I am going to work on a little portable brooder that they can live in (preditor proof) while young and I can move to different garden spots, my NN chickies I got from Poco are to big for this plan, but I may have some new chickies to hatch about the right time.

With Poco's help. This chickie addition is totally unplanned for by me something that has developed over the past few days and more then I had planned for or have room for, but that may give me the UMPH I need to actually "do the deed" w/ my current extra boys, well all except Ms. White who if she is a boy will go back to Poco b/c of the very bare neck and large size genes.

lol! Here's hoping Ms White, the transvestite, is spared her life! lol

Oh Monty, sorry about your birds. Been there, done that and still it makes me very angry. The thing that makes it worse if the non-chalant attitude people have about their animals doing this, like it is no big deal.

Going to miss you and Macy tomorrow. Are you going to Newcastle tomorrow night?
Looks like lots of folks were on last night visiting. I went to bed early. Too worn out to stay up past ten o'clock.

Robin - Five of the seven guinea eggs hatched. The babies are in the barn brooder making a racket. Four look pearl, and the fifth has white wings. I'm really curious to see how it will change as it grows. I'll take some photos tonight.

I've got a garden to weed. The sun is obscured by clouds, and the wind is below 15 mph, so I think this is the time to evict the weeds. I hope everyone has a great day.

For those of you headed to POOPS tomorrow: Have a safe and happy day! I'll be there is spirit. Help me live the day vicariously by posting your photos and telling stories about your favorite POOPS moments.
Going to miss you!
