***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Maam, you are awesome. Chicken lady that fixes frog legs. My wife got introduced to them after we were married. She has come around pretty good. Have two good frog leg stories.
I was in Germany in early 80s. Stationed at Frankfurt. I heard of a little cafe about 2 hour train ride that served frog legs. I would ride that train once a month to eat frog legs. I am sure had nothing to do with the cute little Fraulein that worked there. In late 90s me, Molly, Ethan, and little niece went on vacation. Went to Atlanta saw the Braves, then down to Miss. then along coast to New Orleans then to Dallas and home. Ate at every Cajun place we could find had a blast. Last night on trip stopped at a real nice place and they had frog legs. I had them of course. Ethan was about 7 or 8 and Katy was about 14. Katy wanted a bite of the frog legs. Ethan asked her what they tasted like. She of course said "chicken". Ethan was eating chicken strips and Katy asked him what they tasted like. Kids don't have an inside voice when you are in a crowded nice place and about as load as he could said "It tastes like dog". Me and Molly just sorta slunk down in our chairs. But I do love me some frog legs.

It sure seems like the yard and garden work has called a lot of us the past couple of days. I hurt in places I forgot I had this evening. I did what mowing I could with the rider yesterday and today was push mower and weedeater time. That was after I worked in the garden doing some weeding a more planting and then transplanting some ornamentals into pots for the front porch. Yesterday and the day before were my days to clean pens, brooders, and nest boxes. These days I have no idea how I ever had time for a full time job! Maybe all of us girls need to get together after this week for massage and hot tub therapy.......

Gotta give an update on Serama Sam while I'm here.
I am breaking a filly for a friend and we are to the point that she is coming out to take her first few rides before taking her home. We were out at the trailer tacking up the horses this evening, about 75 ft. from where Sam and his buddy hang out, and I looked around and here he came. I guess he heard us talking and thought we needed help with the saddling. I'm not sure how you train a chicken to stay out from under horses, but I might need to give it some thought. Silly little bugger. And, his big blue friend was back at the cage worrying herself sick because he left without telling her where he was going. Of course, later, when I was feeding the rabbits, she got under my feet and I accidentally stepped on her toes. I've never had chickens that wanted to be that close before. I kinda like it, though. At long last, I have friends!!!

Thank you very much for the info.  They sell that late?  I'm like the chickens i get up early and go to bed early...you probably won't have to worry about seeing my chickens....I doubt if I can make it. DARN!
Sure need to thin out the birds here, hatching more every day!  :lau

The sale at Newcastle has changed up a little in the last couple sales. Scoots (Modernman on here) has now started having sale start at 5 and bird sale start at 7 at the latest. Either sale will let you drop off your birds and mail you a check. You can put a reserve on them if need be and pick up birds if they dont sale.

drowned 8 of the 9 babies I got at POOPS. I had their cage pushed against the bathtub. Filled the bathtub to let the ducklings have a swim, but something happened (I think it was when my 3yo was screaming bloody murder right after a loud thud) and I left the room forgetting I left it on. flooded the bathroom and one of the bedrooms. killed 4 orps, 3 EE and the naked neck. Ellie is so sad, but taking it really well considering. I think she is taking it better than I am really

I'm sorry that happened to you.

Cochin questions.. I'm hearing someone in the cochin pen trying to crow besides the d'Anvers roo. I think I've narrowed it down...look a pics and see if you agree. These are the birds from the Iowa eggs that I want to breed to Samson. The Splah hatched Jan 27 and the others were Feb 22.

Maybe either the blue on the left or the splash on the right ( I have another picture of the splash)could be a cockerel....

I think these are all pullets....

Oh and for kicks..here are the two broodie girls with their chicks in the floor pen now. Delilah and Minerva Minorca are raising their babies together.
