***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote: I was feeding the other day and my Muscovy hen that's sitting got impatient with me while I was in the chicken pen, when I came out I saw her take off about 30 feet away and I wasn't paying any mind to where she was heading till she landed on my forehead, the only thing that kept me from losing eyes, nose and lips as she ran in place on my face was my hat stayed in between those talons and me, I was able to turn inside out and head the other way till I regained composure and no I didn't make her wait any longer for her meal LOL Mildred is an awesome duck she usually just tugs on my pant leg to let me know she's off the nest and hungry

Thank you so much! It's all recycled. The walls are made from pallets. We bought plywood from some guy on craigslist who was selling it after it had been used as shelving. The door came from craigslist as well. Windows and roofing I dug out of a junk pile. I even bought nails and screws at the Habitat for Humanity Restoration Station. The roosts inside are tree limbs that came down in a storm. And of course the political signs were after the election.

Bill, I can see that happening and even laughed a little just now! Birds are crazy critters sometimes. Other than the flying towards me, thats basically what happens when the pheasants flush straight up...then start clawing to gain a purchase and get away. The cock bird actually hit so hard two days ago I set down for a minute...wasn't ready for it. I have learned to just stay still, because the more I tried to "help" get them away from me the more crazy they got...so I just stand there and take it...actually now, I herd them to the other side before I bend down...hard lessons learned.

Milly isn't trying to hurt me or anything and it's good she isn't very heavy she just likes to eat out of my hand or the dipper but like yours she don't care to be touched, My Goosy is the same way he wants to be close to me and will protect me also he bit my neighbor on the knee a few days ago cause he got too close then came to me all puffed up and bragging LOL he likes me but don't want me to touch him, the only one that gets away with touching him is Rebecca she will scoop him up and hold him he complains a little when she puts him down but she gets over it quick and goes right back to protecting us LOL I love having the diversity roaming my yard the different personalities are amazing to me, I talk to all of them and pretend I know what they are telling me back, Sometimes I don't know though like when I heard one yelling "Mack! Mack!" I went to see who Mack was and found Suzy Q the Pekin had chipped a tooth and developed a speech impediment

I was visiting with my old boss and good friend Ron Mitchell earlier about one thing and another including his flock of 40 Buff Orpington pullets and found out his daughter is a member of the forum he says she is just crazy about her birds and talks to all sorts of folks here I am now curious if I know you on the Thread here LOL I hope you see this post anyway, I invited him, You and your family to consider attending the get together that's on June 16th in Muscogee called NEOCS should be a fun day for everyone, Doesn't Ron have a van? sounds like a road trip LOL He did say I had to behave myself and not tell any of the jokes I ever told him but that will be fine I intentionally only told him less than half of the jokes I know so he won't see it coming till it's too late

Lots of post to catch up on, between work, the sis in laws house and getting ready for the youngest sons wedding have not had much free time to be on BYC.Spent the day in my kitchen with mom cooking for our family dinner tonight, going to feed 20 to 30 people. Lots of good food ! Wedding tomorrow, so sweet for my son and my new daughter in law to be, they met 5 years ago at church camp. Then back to work on sis inlaws house my next days off. The wood floors were salvagable, just needed sanded and repaired in a few places, stained and sealed, thank you guys for the ideas on the wood floor. (Still need to do the staining and sealing).

A turkey question. Do tom turkeys usualy sit on eggs ? The tom has taken to setting on eggs with the turkey hens, when one gets up to feed and do her business he steals the nest, at night he has been staying in the nesting area with his girls, kind of odd or not ? Their eggs should be hatching in a week or so.

Tums or the generic equivalent- it is a quick calcium boost and helps their muscles relax- i use it for pet birds too

What does the tums do? Does it matter kind of Tums? I am trying to keep a well stocked animal medicine cabinet and watch for stuff to keep in it.

Well missed POOPs - wife has been sick with cancer treatments again. So been sticking close to home and her beside sounds like everyone had a blast and hate to have missed all the fun.

Rainy day here. Wasn't prepared for it to rain until later today, but been raining since the sun came up. The egg bound he seems to be doing better but I mysteriously lost one of my heritage RIR hens. She didn't look right picked her up & she was dead before we made it up to the house. Haven't noticed anything wrong with her until today when we lost her. Was just planning on putting her back into a breeding pen next wk. glad I already hatched a few of her babies this spring.

Think I am going to pack up winter clothes today. Sounds like a good rainy day thing. All the coats take up way too much room in our closets. Plus need to thin down my closet.

BlanchardOK we did miss you at poops, hope your wife is able to battle through her treatments.
