***OKIES in the BYC III ***

A couple of pics from yesterday, then I need to go do some work!!!! lol

I have several girls to develop this swept back feather doo. I love it.

This is noisy cheeks, the most neurotic chicken we have, she really needs some lithium!

and of course can't forget the chickie doos

Oh I love those barred NN's . I have three NN's shipping here next weel from Cackle. I hope one is barred!

Ok so we bought 16 barred rock chicks back in Jan. at auction, they all turned out to be black australorps, so bought more and guess what now, oh they are barred alright but 2 look like this, grrrr (I think they are adorable I love the little muffs, but they are NOT pure BR's like I thought) So now I need to find barred rock hatching eggs or chicks. Need pure BR, prefer chicks but will take eggs if anyone knows of any.

That is adorable! So many cute barred Chickens today.

I'm thinking of getting a couple of small goats. My yard is surrounded by a 4' chain link fence. Is that enough to keep them contained, or will they be constantly roaming the neighborhood. Any advice will be appreciated.

Stimpy we have two of the fainting goats for lawn care, they have not tried to get over four foot fence, if you have mostly grass I suggest sheep or a sheep and a goat, the goats prefer weeds and brush where sheep prefer grass, JMO, Lynn

I'm no help. I am trying to seduce people away from the Barred Rock and onto the American Dominique. :)

Dominiques would work too, we are trying to breed more sexlink chicks and right now I have 8 BR hens but need a younger lot to start raising now. Do you have Dominiques? Or know where I can find them as chicks? I love the barring pattern it is so pretty and adds a bit of a change from the Marans we have. Looks like I am going to have to build a "mutt pen" for all my misfits that won't be breeding this year, lol.

yep, sheep prefer grass and goats prefer roughage.

4 ft fence will keep pygmies or other small goats in, until they realy want out!

pygmies are the worst i have ever seen about finding a hole, or tearing up the fence!

dehorned is the only way to go, and bottle babies make life easier. they dont want to leave near as much, and wont go far if they do get out.

mine always ended up in the front yard, the sheep stay around back unless we are outside, then they want to be where we are.

we do let the sheep out ever so often, but have to realy watch them since we live in the middle of town!
