***OKIES in the BYC III ***

LOL We have sooooo many ponds and sooooo many bullfrogs. There is a constant supply of croakers. I really enjoy listening to them in the evenings. But I do enjoy listening to them sizzle in a skillet too.

Ahhhh..... the many sounds of nature.

If we were overrun or had lots of them, I might think about putting some in the freezer, too, but for some reason they were almost wiped out here a few years back. They are slowly making a comeback, though, if I can keep the grandkids away from them with their 22's.

Does anyone want a Dominique cock? I am thinking of listing him on craigslist for $10 just so nobody will buy him to eat him. I'd give him to someone on here free if they wanted to use him for breeding though. I'm not set up for more than one line at this point in time and he's out of a different line than the one I'm working with. He also beat the crap out of the cock I am using for breeding, so he has to be separated. It's no life for a chicken to be in a tiny little cage. :/ Anyway, reply or PM me if you want a rooster.

Never mind. I found a place for him!

Woke up this morning to find two dead headless turkey poults and a third injured. No signs that the predator actually got into the pen though, just a small hole in the side fence with blood outside the fence.

We sprayed the third bird with blue kote. It's injured on it's back, almost like two punctures wounds but they aren't very deep. Guessing it was a possum or raccoon but we don't know. Whatever it was didn't bother our ducks at all and they just have a shelter, not an enclosure. We've never seen a raccoon in our yard in 18 years. We've had skunks and possums and great horned owls but we know it wasn't an owl because they were taken from the side fence and are covered from above. Guess we'll be building a new turkey house this afternoon when hubby comes home.

It just really sucks because we've been wanting to start breeding white hollands for so long and we started with 15 of them this spring. 3 of them died the first two days and then another 4 died within the next couple of weeks. They'd be fine one day and dead within 8 hours. The rest have been growing and doing really well so to lose another two and have a third injured like it is ... AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!

Sorry to hear this. I know all to well what it is like fighting varmits. Took lots of trapping, and two good gaurd dogs and one in training. it is getting almost safe enough I dont make 2 or 3 trips out every night with flashlight and shotgun. Now I am down to once a night and sometimes I even skip one. The dogs are by far the best thing I have. Although the fox did get past them and had to trap it. But now with the GP pup (making it 3 GDs) I think I am well protected.

Started out with 125 tomatoe plants. Wind and other weather broke off 5 total in last few days. was at Wal Mart today and they had some awesome 50 day maturing tomatoes, so bought a few to replace the broke ones. I would sure hate to not have enough tomatoes this summer.

I hate that for you! That sounds like a skunk. Years ago, I was tending my landord's flock while he was in CA and I went one morning to feed and found half his chickens lying dead with their heads removed. The skunk was still in the pen just roaming around like he owned the place. Not only had he killed chickens, but also the peacocks that were in there. Needless to say, he didn't survive the .38 pistol I carried for varmints at the time. I've heard that that's what skunks do, though. They bite off the head and drink the blood. Vampires.

Ol' Cowboy, if you need more tomato plants, I still have a couple hundred potted up in my greenhouse. You're welcome to all you want. They're small because of the pots, but should take off and catch up to the others pretty quick once they were in the ground. I'd hate for you not to have enough 'maters this year, too!

FREE CHICKS!!! I have a dozen little feather legged roosters, standard size, one week old, free for pickup. I just want them gone. Call or text as I'm rarely on. 4052400120 I'm north and West of Shawnee.

Matt, If they are cochins, I bet Muesky might be interested.

I haven't had much chance to post. I have just enough time to skim through everything on here. Welcome to all the new people.

Sorry to hear about all the losses. I had to totally cover the top of my chicken yard. Not only did I have hawks around, my own dogs will get em if they escape the enclosure. No free roaming around here. Well my Naked Necks were shipped today from Cackle. I only ordered three of them. I am a nervous wreck! I just can't believe little chickies can survive that trip.

It says on there site that they usually put extras in small orders. I hope not too many extra. LOL
