***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Nana, sorry you lost two good chicks, hard to loose them once they are that big. I would never have thought a snake would try to eat one that big! I am going to have to rethink our coops I may have to put hardware cloth around the bottom of them so snakes don't have a way to come in. Of course they would probably just find a different way to come in. I just hope I am not the one to find one. That would be a funniest home video winner there I am deathly afraid of snakes.

Cathiesue, Lowes has a plastic shield thing you can buy that is for bird feeders. It is ment to keep pesky squirels out of the feeders but either we have very tallented squirels or it plain ol' just don't work, lol. You might try one of those or really it is just a plastic dome, you could get the top off a trash can and drill a hole in the middle to fasten it to the feeder.

Shelly, pretty birds! I am putting Kurt's Partridge banty cochin roo with his girls this week so hopefully in a few weeks he will have eggs to hatch littles from. He is away at camp this week and I keep worrying that something will happen to those birds while he is gone, lol. Jack's little buff brahma banty cochins are back to laying after a week off. That pair we get darn near 100% hatch rate from every time. He has lots of chicks to pick what he wants out of it and then he plans on selling the rest. I told him no way can we keep 4-5 chicks of his every week, haha.

It has been a crazy busy week here, moved birds on Sunday to make room for chicks coming out of the house, the last hatch should start today or tomorrow. Had some pipped last night so hope we get a good hatch so I can end on a good note this season. Mom is home from the hospital but still can't see well enough to use her own phone. I can't believe they just sent her home like that. She is alone during the day because my sisters and I all work day jobs. My 12 year old niece has been staying with her but that isn't much help. She is kind of hard to get along with even on a good day so I feel for my niece. I am sure she isn't great to deal with now that her vision is not 100%.

Robyn, how is your FIL doing?

Morning folks, sleepy this morning, all I can do to type! Wife went out and did chores this morning, she said we have a hen that something got a hold of and one that is lethargic, so I gotta get Dakota to go out and get them and see what we can do with them, hope everyone that needs rain gets some, have a great day!!! PS. Kassandra why don't you frame some of your beautiful pictures or copies of them ant the NOECS, I am sure you could set up a booth and take pics of people and their chicken to be developed and sent to them in a nice matted frame or something like that, maybe some veggies or gourds if you have extra, or a demo of your bug projects, you have lots of skills to share!!!

Morning everyone!

FIL is coming home today!

been busy finishing up some art for the booth, and gritting my teeth needing to bring some of the little ones... and the little lame guy is getting around better with his hock taped...

here is ome of the art that will be there

Beautiful artwork, Robin. I know I will be looking for note cards. I've used all the cards I got at POOPS the year before last, and family members are always asking when they will get a letter with chicken artwork on the card. Real letters sent through the postal service are powerful vehicles for communication. Opening an email is not the same experience as opening an envelope and finding a work of art surrounding a handwritten letter. Priceless.

You'd have to peel me out of the top of the cedar trees if I saw that snake here, Nana!!!
I'm THIS ------->.<------- close to offering some rooster meat up to one of those snakes though. The 2 Maran's boy have the feathers worn off their girls wing bows, the Faverolles boy has his favorite girl bald on her head.....We  separated those boys from their girls tonight and I'm thinking of making each of those sets of boys a nice yard-with NO girls! It bothers me a lot to have my girls feathers messed up :( . The huge Blue Cochin boy only has 2 girls in with him (2 of the girls from you, Seth!) and their feathers are in perfect shape. Why are some roosters so rough on the girls??? Sheesh.

i dont know exacly why but some boys are realy good with there girls and some are way to agresive  . the agasive boys will some times calm doun as they get older biger runs can help and or more girls . if the hens fight the roo it make an agresive breeder worse

king coro was the best boy i ever had he was always realy good with the girls never had a fertilaty problem and never had a worne hen he was alsome  I MISS HIM :hit

What kind of rooster was he?
Originally I was going to try putting like 10 hens in with each boy who overbreeds them. Then it occurred to me that was silly to go to that much trouble and expense for a single rooster (unless he was one of my favorites lol). I've got several roosters who don't have girls in with them and they seem perfectly happy so I'll try putting them in groups of 2 boys for awhile.
Robin, glad your FIL is coming home and Cathie, I hope your mom improves. For her sake and your niece's!

That is great news about the FIL, and the little chickie. You are so talented w/ your art.

When my husband and I were dating we lived in seperate towns and there was no internet, and neither one of us had a computer anyway. We corresponded w/ real letters, I used to use scented stationary, after we married my MIL said her mailbox never smelled nice anymore! lol

Poco it was for the best, no electricity most of the morning, just got it back and still no water, they are doing something w/ the lines today.

I am doing a demo for raising feeder insects and had thought about a start up of dubias for the raffle that anyone could use as a start up (adult breeding pairs in the colony) or just feed out if they didn't want to start their own colony. But wasn't sure how that would go over.

I may consider the photography thing for next time, I've never been to a chicken event and don't want to tie myself down any further then the demo so I am free to roam and take it all in, besides I have to beat Ksane to banjoes table!!!!!!!
