***OKIES in the BYC III ***

JCat, I can't wait to see pics of the W/BW Ameraucana. I'm really getting attached to Ameraucana and Araucana.
I do have to thank you for the suggestion about combining birds that I've hatched. I've decided to do that. Now I get to have my Silver/Gold Laced Cochins and my Brahma girls all together under my favorite set of trees. In some strange way just the thought of that makes my day

BFrancis, when you posted wanting W/BW hens I thought that meant you didn't have any left. If you'll have some eggs the end of July I'd sure be interested in some. That would save having to have them shipped. Plus I think your birds are so pretty!

Tony, I don't know what kind of bird that could be? Some of the Oriental Games are colored way way pretty like that and they're so exotic looking with their long legs and giraffe-like necks, could it have been one of the Games?

5AcreFarm, that looks like a Partridge Cochin to me also. I'm so tempted to try to find just 3 or 4 Partridge Cochin eggs and hatch them, they're so pretty. I hate to put a dozen eggs of something in the incubator because in case they all hatch that's way too many.

MJ, this little Cochin boy has already got tons of green in his feathers and they're not even grown out yet. He truly is beautiful. If I could find a couple Lavenders & Mille Fleur pullets I want to make him his own yard with some fluffy-butted Bantam Cochin girls, not to breed them but just to admire them. That's what we do a lot of around here-wander around looking at the different chickens and discussing what cool chickens we have. Hey-after 24 yrs of marriage you run out of things to do

. I want them to be built like him and with his kind of full feathering. He's so cool with his huge fluffy back-end waddling around. I can only imagine how awesome he's going to look when he's feathered in. Sometime in the near future will you have any Mille Fleur & Lavender or Calico pullets available that you're not planning to use for breeding? I'd love to buy some for him. Since he came from you, I'd feel safe putting him in with pullets from you. Like I said-I really think it was something they were all exposed to at the auction because I lost other chicks I'd bought that same night also.

Cathie, what you said about the baby gooses is how I feel about Guinea keets :) Their only fault is they grow up into Guineas!
I shouldn't talk like that, I really don't have a problem with Guineas except the female's noise. I actually like the screeching male's noise.

MamaPoppyBee, Great job on the coop! I love the color and the heart shaped doors. Another thing that looks good is when people hang old pots and things backwards on their coop walls. I've always thought that looked so cool.

I always stress over babies first night outside. Shoot my guinea keets have been outside for a good 2 weeks and I still worry about them. Their little small temp. coop is outside my bedroom window so I check on them at all hours of the night to make sure their little light is on, lol.

How old are your guineas when you move them out?

Mitzi...I still have mine. just want an influx of new blood. Pretty proud of my roo and have a cockerel that I'm keeping from him...got one gorgeous hen, one that's "eh" that is coming out of that quad (breeding program) and have my white ameraucana with them too.

I'm sure that I'll have eggs in July...just know that 1/3 will be pretty good, lol. Just wanted to give you that disclaimer on my flock of BW Ams...

I'll just give them to you...we will need to figure when you want them that corresponds to a "3rd Saturday" then I can bring them down to New Castle auction for you...

poco I've been working w/ the pics, several turned out really good, but the ones I took specifially to show the correct spot to cut weren't clear for what I wanted to show, but one of the ones I took to show the blood vessels was a little better. I think w/ some explanation they will be clear.

oh no, she took pictures too!!!!!!!

wo is me, oh wo is me!!!!!!!!!

LOL you DO NOT want to be around our house at about sunset!!! It starts with the splash roo crowing and works its way around the yard until the guineas start their noise and that is deafening! We can't have a converstation about that time of night in the back yard. Then once all the guineas go roost it is all over, lol.

If you want Partridge bantam cochins we might have eggs in a few weeks. Kurt's roo is finally out of quarenine (been there since we bought him just in case) and with the little pullets. They are just now laying good so hopefully in a few weeks we will have some eggs to hatch from that pen. I am sure Kurt would be willing to part with a few of the chicks or eggs for you. He also has milli fleur pair but they aren't old enough to breed yet. (but don't tell the little roo he has been acting like he is, lol). Kurt is like you he has 5 roos and only 4 pullets but can't bear the thought of getting rid of any of the extra roos. So he will be building coops for the single roos

This last batch was 3 weeks old when they moved to an outdoor brooder off the ground (AKA rabbit hutch), then 5 weeks old when I moved them to a ground coop (A-Frame), they will need a big pen by time we get done with fireworks in 3 weeks. They will keep their light in the coop until then just in case they need to warm up. But they have been sleeping in the run of the coop under the stars the silly things!

No, they really don't. I actually got rid of the first pair of silkies I had. They were partridge silkies and so sweet, but I was free ranging then, and that little rooster called and called and called until he got four hawks circling my property. I actually returned them to the breeder. I have some bantams now, but only keep them in a tractor. No ranging for them.
I just re homed my rooster. He was a beauty and sweet too. I hated saying bye to him, but he crowed way too much. I live in town and just couldn't keep taking the chance that he would draw unwanted attention to my little chicken operation going on here. I never thought about him attracting hawks. I have my chickens in a fenced off area with chicken wire on top. It's not free ranging, but it's better then getting eaten by a predator or my dogs.
