***OKIES in the BYC III ***

It is hard to resist a cute freckled face girl. Plus of course she tells everyone about all her birds & how she trains her guineas to stay home. She enjoys it & I think they do too.

Buster I can't imagine sticking around until 11 if I sold out. My kids would have a fit, I am hot & bored would be all I heard. I know they don't want the whole market empty before closing time, but sitting around waiting on the clock when it is 100+ outside would be AWFUL!
here is the egg carton deal page
http://www.eggcartons.com/Home/Egg-Carton-Deals/
the deals change-- the 30 count we bought was an awesome deal, $35 for 200 of them shipped so 17c a carton that will hold 2-1/2 dz eggs! We also bought the PLEG type & don't like those too much. They are OK, but not great- we wouldn't buy them again. I check the site whenever I think of it to see what "deals" they have. I am not sure how hard the 30 pk will be to sell, but often people buy 2 dz eggs so if I throw 6 eggs in free then they should take a 30 pk. And we actually will make the same amount of $$$ since the cartons were so cheap.

so would that me double the teaspoon??? i don't know cc's....
hide.gif
1 teaspoon = 5 cc
1 Tablespoon = 3 teaspoon = 15 cc
1 oz ~= 6 teaspoon ~= 2 Tablespoons ~= 30 cc.

So I'd use a smidgen over a tablespoon for treatment per gallon and a teaspoon and smidgen over a half teaspoon for maintenance. Alternatively, you could swing by a drugstore, and ask them for a 10 cc syringe they give out with kids medication and use that to measure.

Buster-- this is just me thinking out loud with no proof, just a hunch. What about using some catfish feed? It is way high in protien & amino acids. I wonder if you could do a small test batch, like 10 or so birds & give them 1/4 catfish feed & 3/4 of your mixed feed? I was looking at floating catfish feed the other day so I could toss it in the ducks water & they could splash & chase the feed in the water as they ate a snack. Just a thought. No research but it does have animal protien & amino acids so it might help.
Anyone feel free to chim in, this is based of no reasearch, just me standing in Atwoods near a bag of catfish feed thinking how my ducks would like it.

We're getting a light shower...maybe 1/4 inch so far but we are on the east edge of the storms moving south. Sure would like a good toad soaker like last week. Garden needs at least one inch a week. So I'll set out the sprinkler again tomorrow.

Red has been sticking to my side like a tail and I almost tripped over him several times while trying to put up the bigger goose pen before the rain stated. He could hear the distant thunder.. These two little geese are really growing in the past 10 days.

Congrats Mitzi on the hatch.
Christina, your girls are the best little entrepreneurs!

We buy 50 pound bags of the flaoting catfish feed at SS in Shawnee. We feed the fish in our ponds. It does sink after a few minutes.but the fish love it. Helps us keep tabs on the numbers and sizes of perch for food fish for the catfish and bass. Catfish and turtles eat it too. Gives us a way to sniper those pesky turtles.

Sold all the keets by 10. Now we are home enjoying warm coffee for me. Hot chocolate for the girls. They ate an early lunch, checked animals & are going back to bed. I got them up @ 5 & this afternoon we still have to get everything ready for farmers market. They are exhausted but they love having money in their pockets. Think the market & swap helps the girls with manners, communication & math. OJT is the best way to learn IMO.
For egg prices we sell ours $3 dz. at that price I don't think any profit is involved. Feed cost is a gray area since I am feeding more than laying hens 100 lbs of feed only lasts us 3 days.
Mitzi awesome hatch! I have always heard they were hard to hatch because the lethal gene??
When doodle comes back to OK I am going to contract him out to landscape the new house. Wonder if he will trade labor & his knowledge for guineas?
Yeh 3 dollars would barely cover feed at my house lol but I'm not sure there is profit in eggs lol

As most of you know and for those who don't I am a Scrapper, scrounger, recycler, make doer!!! I use what I can get for free or cheap!!! Most of my chicken pens are made from pallets used tin and used wire, I go through a lot of baling wire and pick up rusty nails at auctions when i can, I just wanted to let some of you in on some of my secrets!!! i find that the best places to find FREE Pallets, big and small are at window places, glass repair place, motorcycle and lawnmower sales places, and mattress and furniture sales places!!! Most of them are glad for you to haul them off, and some of the large ones can be used as a frame already made for a cage or can be taken apart ( I use a Sawsall with a meta/wood blade and cut between the joints thru the nails!!) As for tin and wire, I get most of mine for hauling it and other stuff off for free!! I get a lot of old torn down 2x 4 welded wire fencing, sometimes I have to cut out pieces and patch it or put the door there, I also haul off appliances for people and use the grills from fridges and stove for cage doors!! I salvage out the rest of what is metal and sell it for scrap!!! I have some pics posted in my profile pics but can't remember how to post from my pics since they changed everything on here!!!! Hope this helps some, Lynn

i have a freind that picks up crates and pallets for me, he gets a lot of them from sign and window companies. a lot of the crates are huge, some 10-15 feet long and a few even longer.
only thing i realy spent money on, besides labor, is wire. i buy from a place in oolagah, 1x1 heavy guage panels for my pens, 2x2 and 3x3 for all the fences and stuff. expensive, but nothing short of a mechanical critter can get thru it!

found out about a guy in wagoner with old english, going to go see what he has as soon as i can find out where he lives or his phone number. my neoghbor says he knows who he is and where he lives, so i am hoping when he gets off work we can go by and see him.

been reading about this northeast oklahoma poultry swap that happened in muskogee. how often do ya'll do things like this?

also read something about a green country swap meet, what is this and where is it and when?

i like swap meets and flea mkts and things like that, sometimes if they are too far i have to catch a ride with someone, but know peoploe that like swaps and stuff too, so it works out ok for me most of the time.
