i have 2 pens, 15 x 10 and 10 x 10, checking around pricing it, supposed to be 106 today- good grief!

i should have enofe for you to cover them now all we need is figer out how to get it to you

the coolest place my chickens have found so far is under the back deck. mine have the run of the yard. problem is i use that for sequestering new birds so they are back to panting inside the coop. we have no trees. i'm working on some shade fro them this weeken. Dang, it's hot now. What's August gonna be?

They were all the same size and had been raised together since I got them a few days after they hatched. It was definitely overcrowding. I actually did bring the other blue in and put it with the badly injured one. I checked him over today. Nothing looks broken. Just a badly chewed on leg. I cleaned it with betadine, slathered neosporin on it, and wrapped it with gauze and vetwrap. Had eleven out there, but just checked on them tonight, and I'm down to ten. A dang ol' snake tried to swallow one of them. It was too big for him, but he snapped its neck anyway. Normally I let snakes go. It wasn't a normal night. :/

We've had problems with snakes, I've even killed to baby snakes that were the same kind as the ones that tried to eat our birds. Feel kinda bad, but eh, gotta do what cha gotta do!

Sorry I missed the sale last night but I was able to get lots of garden work done, plus DD sold all her keets locally. Imagine she will try and sell the rest locally. Think she only has 20 dz eggs left for this season. Already went out in the garden for 2 hours this AM. Past 3 days I have picked 15 lbs of tomatoes a day in a few wks I think I will be spending over an hour a day just on tomatoes.
Today I plan on letting the ducks play in the wadding pool. Prob only going to give them 2 or 3 inches of water, but I know they will enjoy it!
Oceans wish you would have taken pics of you going to collect your turtle from those who found it. I can't imagine how you got him home! So glad you were able to find him!

I didn't get any pics of picking him up, but this is after I pulled him out of our car and was trying to bait him into the back yard so I didn't have to carry him again

I can't tell if he is looking at the watermelon or your toes with that hungry look.

DD found a wild turtle today & was trying to feed him a tomato but he wouldn't have anything to do a her. If he would have befriended her she would have tried to keep him in her room I am sure.

Buster the tomatoes are selling very well. I am not a tomato eater -- I just cook with them & can them. Friday a lady bought a few tomatoes from us went home ate one & came back for more. She said they were so good, so we are doing something right. I am not sure I could enter a tomato contest since I don't personally like raw tomatoes (except bruschetta) try to get my husband to pick the ones that are the yummiest, but he is no help. He always says it taste like a tomato. So I grow what looks pretty. I have picked 4 carbon tomatoes-- I planted them for a pretty purple tomato but they keep cracking. DH tried one & of course they taste like a tomato. I love growing pretty vegetables....

ETA-- I have no idea how many plants I have left-- I started over 900 I think.... But gave some away. Hail storm took a hundred +. I am guessing I have at least 600 plants, but at least 500 are heirlooms & they will not put out as much fruit as a hybrid like the celebrity variety that everyone grows.

That's a great feeling, isn't it? We have several people tell us our chickens and eggs are the best they have ever tasted. That makes it worth all the work, more so even than the money.

Although money is nice, too.

aw, yeah my girls keep finding wild ones and want to feed them, I keep explaining to them, they are only interested in staying off the menu when they see us!

yes they have a geat personality and are verry vocal everyday as i feed i miss the brown red hen meeting me at the door of her pen she has allways been so friendly she also has exalant egg color if you hatch the eggs from the brown red hen and the BBR roo you will get silver chicks

what happened to everybody that was here a month or so ago? there was always something going on here, now it is very slow.

I've killed 2 'baby' rat snakes. I feel bad killing anything that's a baby, too. But I know what those 'babies' will have on their dinner menu when they grow up.
Can you engrave your name & phone number on the tortoise's shell? Or even a small plaque super-glued to his shell with your name and number? We found our late Pyrenees, Quinn, protecting a box turtle once years ago. (I miss that dog so bad, he was perfect with critters). Anyway, we painted a "Q" on the turtle and named it "Quinnie's Terrapin". That same turtle hung around for years, probably longer but the paint finally wore off.
Maybe once the initial infection goes away in the turk it takes awhile for the swelling to go down or something.
This heat is the reason I've been in a panic the past few months to get these yards built around the different trees. The willows and Cottonwoods that sprouted last fall are 8-10 ft tall now, I've been babying them. So next summer there'll be lots more shaded areas

621 post since I've last checked this. Well I wanted to come on and share some photos. Ask your opinions on somethings. Hope everyone has been doing well!! Sadly every single turkey I had died. I don't know what happened but it was one a day. When the first one died I thought maybe they need to go outside now and get some sun and bugs. So we moved them to the shed that my dad had fixed up. And they just didn't make it. Breaks my heart because they were so big.
