I have been mostly testing it out on the two front pastures and haven't moved it that often. But I will be moving it this week to the back pastures, will run 328 feet of electric poultry netting around it. I plan to move the the netting around once a week until an area is used up, like spokes of a wheel using the wagon as a hub, then move the wagon and start over again.

Been thinking about the misters and shade thing again and think Joe is right that there is a time and place for it depending on your needs. All my layer breeds are very heat tolerant, but I am worried about my Cornish Cross, which are not heat tolerant AT ALL. I'm thinking misters on a timer might be the answer of getting them to butcher weight. I had planned on having them done by now, but alas they have grown slower than advertised. I'm thinking operator error.

Obviously, if you have no shade on your property, then shade fabric would be the way to go. And if you need to keep them separated in small pens, Joe's setup is probably ideal.

Joe, where would you recommend getting shade cloth, what density do you use, and how much does it run?

i beleave the last roll i ordered from GEMPLERS " but i have also ordered from other places " i recomend at least 70% but 80% is what i use the wider the rolls the LESS expencive it is i ordered the 20' by 100' if i remeber right it was a lettel over 300$ for the roll witch was the cheepest i found last spring a spent a lot of $ on shade but even with the 117 deg days last summer i only lost 2 birds to heat last year witch was great because i know some lost 65% of there flock " i would been heart broken if i had lost 10% could not amagin 65%"

i think the smalles roll you can get is about 12' by 10' and runs about 20$ you should be able to look at there online catalog for pricing and whithd and linths they carry the shade is verry UV resitant and and last for seaveral years there are other ways to give your birds shade but the shade cloth lets the air and breez flow through and with the mister it works almost like i swap cooler when the wind /brezz blows i have been verry happy with the investment i made in shade cloth

Hey Nanakat I think!!! Here is a pic I borrowed, this is NOT my rooster, even though I wish he was, he's gorgeous, but anyways in the back ground you can see the basic of what I was talking about on the cages, I used feed sacks shingled up on both side cause their cheap and more insulating from the heat than a tarp!!! I put my roost pole the opposite way to his too so they are up under the cover when on the roost!! Lynn

I am going to get a dog tag and super glue it to his shell.

Instead of super glue try E-6000 glue, we used it when a picture came off a family headstone. 7 years later that picture is still on there.

Looks good, you might chek but I think I might add a 1/2 tsp of Epsum Salts to the top or 2tsp ES to the bottom, JMO, Lynn

Dang Carl! If Bill don't want to come after it give me a shout I will and anything else metal you want to get rid of!!! i was just thinkin about makin some big dome pens myself, not sure whether to go with sucker rod or pvc, would rather do sr I think, that way i won't have to replace pipe for ever!!! LOL Mitzi, Not bionic but I may need a vacation from my summer. Hubby mentioned this morning he wants to take the kids on vacation this year. It has been 4 years since we have had a family vacation. We are thinking about Branson/Silver Dollar City, we went when Matthew was little but the little guys have never been. My hubby deserves alot of credit for what gets done around here. He went yesterday and drove all over central OK gathering things from various places we found on craigslist. Kurt and I just had to unload all the fence panels he got and put them together and put tops on them with wire. I will say that Kurt and Nathanael were amazing help yesterday and this morning.

We spent this afternoon at the stand and had the birds out free ranging for a bit after I got home but a chick hawk swooped the yard and the roos got their hens in pretty quickly. So I put everyone up. I figure they see the new pens and have to see for themselves they can't snatch my little babies out of their pens.
