***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hot ... again ... boo. So tired after getting up at 6:00 am to work on converting the storage space into the new critter barn and then find out this afternoon my husband may lose his job at the end of the week. If that happens I don't know how we'll be able to continue keeping our birds.

We won't even be able to keep our bills paid and food on the table let alone buy feed for the birds not to mention our son is starting college in the fall. We spent two years dealing with unemployment and he's only been back to work for a year. I don't think I can do this again. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed that he keeps his job for now. I don't want to give up my animals.

Prayers headed your way.

Well finished getting the wire on the top of the 10x20 pen but still have to lace the pieces of wire together and I am out of wire to do that with. Looks like a trip to Lowes is in my future tomorrow. Hopefully I get the pen done tomorrow night and birds moved. I think they will be much happier when their space doubles.

I had a young GS pullet weak tonight when I got home. I took her in and put her in one of the inside brooders with plenty of water and crumbles, hopefully she bounces back. I really hope she makes it she is almost to laying age and she is a very sweet girl. Looks like the frozen water bottles might have helped in most the coops. I figure one bird down out of the many we have isn't to bad for as hot as it got today.

I fed some of the fermenting oats tonight and the birds went crazy for them! The little chicks aren't sure what to think of it but I sprinkled some in their yards and they were scratching at it when I went in the house.

So tired tonight so I think I will shower and go straight to bed, the boys already made themselves bowls of cereal for dinner. I know not the best dinner but it won't hurt them for this one night.

Yall stay cool it is easy to overheat very easily out there. Kurt and I were only out there for about an hour and a half and I got overheated. I am thinking 20 min shifts are called for tomorrow at the fireworks stand so no one is out in the heat to long.

I am so sorry, I will be praying for your husbands job situation. We go through that every year with my husband's job and it is an awefull fealing for sure.

Good morning to all! It`s gonna be another hot one! 106°F here yesterday and it`s supposed to get up to 104°F today! Y`all have a good n` and stay cool! :) egh
Lookey what the cat dragged in, as I live and breathe I never thought that you would make it over here.

I've tried to catch up to you but there have been way to much lost data through the years.

Last Summer in all that terrible heat I helped Jack water and feed his birds. Four or five times I found a hen that was overheated. I dunked them in the water pan and splashed it under their wings and legs. I even left one very limp one sitting in the water and she soon was back to normal. They all revived but one. I really felt like a chicken hero. Sometimes his birds would stand in the water pans to cool off. I have never seen one of my Cochins get in the water though.

Ended up with another broodie with eggs today. One of the white cochins decided that Delilah needed help setting her clutch so she has taken over the nest every time Delilah gets out and then won't let her back in the nest. Delilah would sit outside the box and talk to her eggs and beg Carmen to let her have her eggs back. I moved another box in and put 4 of the eggs in with Carmen and Delilah went back into her nest. They are side by side so if they want to switch back and forth they can. Broodies! Got to love em.

That's horrible, I hope it doesn't come to that. My husband has been laid off several times it is no fun at all.
