***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning all! Swamp cooler is full & fans are going & will open the barn doors before we head out in a few. The 3 birds we lost had access to tubs of water to stand in, fans, swamp coolers & tons of shade. The first one we lost had been standing in a water trough for at least 3 hours. And of course they all came from eggs DD sought out not from our own eggs. Think the ones we lost are about 12 wks old but not sure. Next few days are going to be cooler so hopefully it helps!

I have not heard from Donnie. I, too, miss his posts. Maybe he's back in school and working crazy hours. He's an industrious guy.

Kass - I incubated the jars for six hours. Did I need to wait longer?

Nanakat - Are the jars of boiling water covered with lids or just open? Do the jars need to be refilled with boiling water at any point?

Prettychicks - Thanks for the info. I will update my records so that I’ll know who I got the babies from.

bfrancis - That’s a beautiful incubator. Using quart jars to maintain even heat and act as a backup during power outages is awesome.

Hey Joe, can you PM me Donnie's name so I can contact him, would you mind asking him to check in here and tell him we all miss him a lot!!! I have a question for you, Carl or whom ever with color genetics knowledge, i have a Grey Game cock that has a lot of silver in his back, neck, and saddle, I have him in with a Game hen that is Ginger Barred all over, my question is, what do you think I will end up with as to baby colors from these??? I was hoping for Silver Ginger!!!! I tried using the Chicken Calculator but not sure I did it right!!! Thanks, Lynn

Something for the duck lovers and gardeners!

Today has been hectic already! Hubby woke me up @ 4:30 with stomach pain in his right side. We looked into symptoms of appendicitis and decided that after he went and opened up the shop at work we would go to ER. Well after a couple hours, some tests and what will surely be the most expensive doctors visit he has had. Turns out to be a wicked stomach bug. He is a soft diet and no dairy fora few days. My poor guy!
I am sorry about your husband's illness. Hopefully he is better very soon.

That is a hilarious picture.

Different folks will say different things or have an "eye" for telling what they are at younger ages....ask people how many cockerels they have now too, when told they were pullets, lol. For me, at 12 weeks the cockerels start showing comb development and tails...

Some sooth sayer will tell you by your pics what they are I'm sure.

Did you mean 12 weeks, or was that a typo? I'm only familiar with my Dominiques, but they show comb development by about four weeks. Is that unusally early?

Our neighbor has a Pyrenees and they have him shaved every summer. Poor thing looks like an overgrown poodle!! LOL He likes to chase my car when I leave of a morning and I always know when they have him shaved because the next day he won't chase my carl. It is almost like he is embarrassed to be seen, lol.
Ha! He's nothing like my poodle. The minute we get her shaved she starts prancing around and showing off like she knows how beautiful she is. :)
