***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I went ahead and bought a bottle in case I need it, that was before I knew it was specific to MG. I'm a pet owner and I don't breed or show. If some of my favorite birds come down with MG they're getting Denagard. But for people that breed and show and that sort of thing I understand why they'd cull instead. I just don't have the guts to.
( CULLING ) I'll have to it with my wife in the house and not knowing what's going on for sure, but I've been dropping hints to her for the past couple of days it would be for the best.

Culling and freezer camp days are never fun - round here I make sure the wife is not here when the time comes.

Got my first eggs in the bator for a week - I cannot wait!!! Cornix quail and maran eggs right now but I have serama, button quail, and bobwhite quail coming this week! I go I the afternoon tomarrow to pick up 7 peacock chicks, and have an order of frizzle chicks comig here Thursday from (dont shoot) ideal... I know they won't be perfect but I was offered and took it!

Had to share this you all, My sister took the pic at her house and posted it on FB with the comment

Its an awful feeling blaming yourself re flock loss, in hindsight, I think we would all know that feeling well, I certainly do!. I guess the only good thing is everyone learns from those experiences and gets to help others prevent them. Doesn't make it easier though. Do you have any idea what is was?

Not sure. We've never seen anything around but the little brown bunnies that eat all my lettuce and the neighbors cat, who is fat, sassy and old. Raccoon is most likely i think. Whatever ti was came back last night. I had tided up the yard, IE. putting excess baby bird parts in a plastic bag, which i left tied up on the porch. It was riped open and parts were mostly gone. I'm worried about my big birds now. I usually don't close the coop door and I've seen no evidence of digging around the pen but I'm going to be making some changes there.

Wow, that is adding insult to injury, it coming back! How awful for you, at least if a snake gets mine, I don't have carnage to clean up. I would definately be locking up the big girls. Could it be a nieghbours dog? Im in Aust so no nothing about your predators but I was wondering if raccoons kill chicks, do they kill the wild rabbits?

I've got 8 Russian Orloff pullets coming from Ideal this week also. If you're not one of the hard core breeders that wants stock with no faults there's not a thing in the world wrong with hatchery birds. And even lots of breeders start out with hatchery birds. It's worth it to me to be able to order pullets. I don't need "well bred" roosters.

My husband does the actual killing part but I have to hold the bird ... lucky wife. Not sure how I'll handle the rabbit days ...

Your wives are fortunate, I'm the director of freezer camp at my house.
My daughter and I have to do all the plucking and washing and cooling, etc ... so I'm right there with you Kassaundra.

Finally got the new rabbit hutches built this morning and most of the old one taken apart. Now we'll be able to build the other two garden beds we've been needing to put in. Rabbits seem happy enough in their new digs. Our turkey toms are really starting to strut a lot. We definitely have two of them and they circle around each other all puffed out but don't fight so far, fingers crossed. Now sure which one we'll keep yet. One is a little bigger and definitely more dominant, aggressive (at least for a turkey) and the other is calm and laid back. The calm one is the prettier of the two though so he'll definitely be the fair entry this year. Still too hot for words but at least it wasn't 108 today.

Was over 100 post behind. Been busy with garden & market.

Did I miss a good auction tonight? It's our 13 wedding anversary so DH & I took a road trip to texas. Worried about the birds in heat, but even if I was home I couldn't do much. DD lost 17 of her keets in the barn. Think they got overheated. She still has plenty left, but never lost a bunch like this. She was really upset. But on the bright side we still have LOTS of guineas!!!

Mitzi I was actually considering ordering some pullets the other day, but then I remembered we are busy enough. More chickens is not something we need right now.
