***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Darn! Only 3? I was so careful to check several times a day so they weren't out in this awful heat, I'm sorry :-( I got way too many males from the eggs I had shipped. If anyone wants male Araucanas just holler at me. I'd had 2 placed but she never showed at the meeting place and never called or PM'd me since. The sucky part is most have tails, 2 blacks are double tufted though. And the Splash is real pretty.
Now you could put those males over NN hens and have what is known in Central America as a Bolo.

Erin that is the link for the goat field day. When the page loads just click the text under the picture of the goat and a new page will come up, roll it down a bit and there you are.

As Christina said there are a lot of reasons that the plants are not producing. The most common being too much Nitrogen in the soil. It makes the plant grow very well and be beautiful but they won't set fruit.

Might be time to do some soil testing of your garden plot. Be a good science project for the kids too.

I bought a pretty fancy soil test kit 20 or so years ago for about 100 dollars and got evil looks from the wife when I ordered it, hey we were raising three kids and that would have been a lot of clothes for them. Anyways I tested the soil and did the amendments and the first year yield increased enough that the kit was more then paid for and over the next five years it increased a little every year until leveling off.

Then of course the economy flattened out and we moved so I could get work. LOL

The boss in Enid had a service where the crews went out and sampled fields and made the needed amendments. We built a soil probe and mounted it on the side of a pick-up and it took a three foot sample. The reason being is that the rain will leach out the top couple of feet and the roots will go down to find the deeper nutrients. So often times with an addition of ag. lime to get the PH under control and a very light application of fertilizer their yield went up over a bushel per acre and their fertilizer costs went way down. Boss made money and so did the farmers, win-win.

We have raised beds so all of our soil has been mixed specifically and it has been tested. Our problem this year is that some seeds grew and did well and others didn't, even in the same beds with the same soil. That's why I was asking as we had never used this seed company before. Everything has been so random in terms of production and I hate wasting all the time and energy and planting space for nothing in return ... not to mention watering costs. Two of the things we bought never even germinated, lettuce being one of them planted right next to lettuce seed that was left over from last year and grew like crazy. It's just bizarre.

That is strange. Especially since they have sprouted seed packed in sealed clay jars from deep inside the pyramids. Didn't get a real good germination rate but some did germinate.

I wonder if your order was randomly selected for x-ray by the postal service or some other strange test?

I ordered from Baker Creek and didn't have any trouble w/ germination. I tried some different varieties and most were not successful, but not a baker creek issue, they did germinate just weren't productive

Now that would be comical! Tufts sticking out both sides of their face and a naked neck lol Sounds like a project for you, Les :-D

Well I can tell you from past experiance that those with the rose comb will lay green eggs. I got bought out of all of my stock when I had them years ago.

I've heard rumors, pnb. And I'm checking them out.

My aunt is visiting from CT, she mostly came to see her sister (my mother) in the nursing home. They had not seen each other since the stroke, Annette was here right after the stroke, but my mother wouldn't remember that she was too sick to remember. Anyway I didn't want her trip to be all NH and no fun so we went to the aquarium today, it was cool, a bit pricey, but that shark tube was uber cool!!!!!
