hi everyone, i need ideas, my littly bantam cochin is lethargiic, not too enthusiastic about eating, light green poop, stands hunched with her eyes closed, checked for egg binding, nothing there.... i brought her in 2 days ago thinking heat? this is one i got at poops a few years ago

Thanks. I went out today and she seems to be over it. I found the eggs down by our big barn, she was sitting on 17 apparently, they had been cracked and sucked totally dry. Any idea what critter would do that? They weren't crushed, just a quarter size hole poked in each of them.

I have no idea what animal does that. 17 eggs? Dang, she's an over-achiever.

Jens Hens-if you figure out a way to get a hen to quit laying in a particular spot be sure to get a patent on it.

Nana, those OEB's are adorable) I just got 6 OEGB Birchen eggs in the mail. It was a moment of weakness that I bid on them and I'm not sure if I'm going to set them or not. Seeing yours nudges me towards giving it a shot though.

I absolutely adore these little Bantam Ameraucanas. I've got 2 separate hatches from the same breeder. This group of 5 are 2 months old. The 2nd hatch of 7 is 3 wks old now. I'm loving this Birchen/Brown Red color. The breeder was doing different projects so I'm not even sure what to call the color. 2 are pure white. They're hands down the sweetest tiny little birds, no bigger than Doves. I've been working all day on their coop, they get their own coop and yard. They just love company. This 1st one is one of the 2 month olds and he's already crowing! Sounds like a squeaky door but he thinks he's awesome.
Then some of the Gold Laced and Silver Laced Cochins. The 1 is a cool Buff color with black flecks but she's not Gold Laced like she was supposed to be. I don't care though because she's really pretty. Then the last 2 are the Orps from Bill. I still can't believe they're pullets, how lucky is that??

I don't have any ideas, I've lost some that showed no more than those signs before and never did know what it was. Just want to say I'm sorry and I hope she gets better.

"Doctor Who" turns 50 years old next year, and to celebrate, BBC Two has commissioned a 90-minute film that will explore the origins of the series, the BBC said Thursday.
"An Adventure in Space and Time" will "tell the story of the genesis of 'Doctor Who,'" the BBC said. "Exploring all aspects of the longest-running science fiction series to date, the special one-off 90-minute drama will also look at the many personalities involved in bringing the series to life."

"Doctor Who" was first broadcast in November 1963, and has gone through several iterations, with numerous actors playing the Doctor. (Matt Smith, the 11th actor to tackle the role, is the latest.)
"Doctor Who" writer/actor Mark Gatiss penned the 90-minute special, with "Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat and executive producer Caroline Skinner executive producing.

"This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original," Gatiss said. "And how an actor -- [original Doctor] William Hartnell -- stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children. I've wanted to tell this story for more years than I can remember! To make it happen for Doctor Who's 50th birthday is quite simply a dream come true."
Casting for the movie will be announced next year, along with production and broadcast schedules.

I have a silkie that is laying her eggs in the back corner under the coop. Any ideas how to make her stop? I laid a few boards down in the corner and now she lays them right in front of the boards. I'd block the underneath offcompletely but that's where all my girls go for shade, there is other shade but I hate to cut it in half because of one stubborn bird. We have a nice nesting box and our other silkie learned pretty quickly how to use it and quit laying eggs on the ground. Her eggs are very difficult to get to because you have to crawl on your hands and knees through the poo and what not, and my kids are starting to protest and I don't blame them!

How far back is it? One of those foam beverage insulation do-dads, A coozie, nailed to a stick makes a good egg collector as does a butterfly net but the really small ones.

Ooooh. I want more info on these rumors. Next year I would like to build a couple of broody arks and I could throw together one more for four rescue birds.

Missed a good chance today. Thirty minutes after we left Fishers this morning Tyson Foods rounded up what was left of the 4,000 for a dime apiece.

Their next sale will be in the fall and will be cage free birds, so will be a little easier to adjust. The owner gave me a couple of leads for brown egg layers that are sold like these are. I'll relay the info as soon as I get it for both.

my girl has been pulled out of the heat, wormed, ivomeced, bathed- now its just wait and see- i hate it when its something like that-

soon as the weather cools down i'll spend one day doing the bantams, then another doing the big ones-

meanwhile Lucky the roo is doing fine, when he is out, he runs after all the girls, so whether he knows he's a roo or not- he is a beauty- i hate to keep him penned from the others though
