Happy Friday Everybody! It`s a perfect 70°F here this morning.....the weather guessers are callin` for a high in the mid 90s, that`s akin to a cold front! Even though the drought worsens the local volunteer Fire Departments are getting the wildfires under control....So many of our friends and neighbors have lost everything, lets continue to keep all involved in our thoughts and prayers!




It`s about time I get caught up on some long over due yard work this weekend....I need to start cleaning and organizing the barn, gotta get ready for some birds. I`m thinking Silver Duckwing OEGBs is the flavor I want to go with.

morning everyone- what a relief its isn't going to be in the 100's suppolsedly thats it for that weather for the year

much to my surprise, little Cindylou the bantam cochin is awake and perky - so something i did worked, not sure what... i was sure last nite she wouldn't make it through the nite

like elbert, i need to catch up on outside stuff, still not sure what to do with lucky the roo- gonna try just letting him out today and see how things go, so far galahad hasn't shown any aggression towards him- maybe attempt reintigrating him? can there be 2 roos in a flock of 20 hens without fighting??

Elbert, good call on the breed!! Silver Duckwing in males and females both is one of my all time favorite colors! I've got an Araucana that color, a Bantam Ameraucana (but they just call it 'Silver'), an OEGB and a Phoenix pair. One of the prettiest colors when you look at all the detail.

Robin, heck yes, 2 roos will get along fine in a flock of 20 girls. It's the girls getting overbred & getting their feathers shredded that I'd worry more about, and that may not even become a problem. Just depends on the roos. Even groups of boys usually do fine as long as there's girls around. I learned my lesson the hard way not to put 3 teenaged big Cochins in a yard next to 4 girls though. They'd have probably done fine if they'd had girls in *with them though.
Why do you think I want all my boys caponized? lol they get along fine with each other but I can't stand the girls loosing feathers. Not to mention that must totally suck being held down and bred all day long.

"Doctor Who" turns 50 years old next year, and to celebrate, BBC Two has commissioned a 90-minute film that will explore the origins of the series, the BBC said Thursday.
"An Adventure in Space and Time" will "tell the story of the genesis of 'Doctor Who,'" the BBC said. "Exploring all aspects of the longest-running science fiction series to date, the special one-off 90-minute drama will also look at the many personalities involved in bringing the series to life."

"Doctor Who" was first broadcast in November 1963, and has gone through several iterations, with numerous actors playing the Doctor. (Matt Smith, the 11th actor to tackle the role, is the latest.)
"Doctor Who" writer/actor Mark Gatiss penned the 90-minute special, with "Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat and executive producer Caroline Skinner executive producing.

"This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original," Gatiss said. "And how an actor -- [original Doctor] William Hartnell -- stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children. I've wanted to tell this story for more years than I can remember! To make it happen for Doctor Who's 50th birthday is quite simply a dream come true."
Casting for the movie will be announced next year, along with production and broadcast schedules.

Well I didn't think I would ever beat my all time most stupid reason for calling an ambulance, which was an "eyelash in my eye", seriously I wish I was kidding. But last night I may have done it, an adult self functioning individual called 911 last night b/c he was "thirsty" I kid you not.

I have a silkie that is laying her eggs in the back corner under the coop. Any ideas how to make her stop? I laid a few boards down in the corner and now she lays them right in front of the boards. I'd block the underneath offcompletely but that's where all my girls go for shade, there is other shade but I hate to cut it in half because of one stubborn bird. We have a nice nesting box and our other silkie learned pretty quickly how to use it and quit laying eggs on the ground. Her eggs are very difficult to get to because you have to crawl on your hands and knees through the poo and what not, and my kids are starting to protest and I don't blame them!

I strapped a minnow net to a long piece of 1/2 inch pvc pipe and pulled out hard to reach eggs. Had a hen that when free ranging would lay her eggs under the garden shed.

my girl has been pulled out of the heat, wormed, ivomeced, bathed- now its just wait and see- i hate it when its something like that-

soon as the weather cools down i'll spend one day doing the bantams, then another doing the big ones-

meanwhile Lucky the roo is doing fine, when he is out, he runs after all the girls, so whether he knows he's a roo or not- he is a beauty- i hate to keep him penned from the others though

Try a little Polyvisol (children's vitamin drops) without iron. I give one or to drops from the eye dropper.
Add yogurt and a few drops of honey on her food.
When they hunker down with their necks to their shoulders, it could be cocci. Do you have any Corid? Tylon 50 shots?
