***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So my main flock - all new babies this year - no eggs till now and then pop today one dz!!!!! Soooo excited!! We will have our own scrambled eggs in the am! We did the happppy dance all over the yard and house!
I'm usually the one providing the entertainment to the neighbors too. lol and congrats

When in kindergarten the teacher asked the class where chicken eggs came from.

Of course my granddaughter got all excited and raised her hand doing the ohh pick me wave, so the teacher did.

"Eggs come from a chicken's butt" was her answer which horrified the teacher and she told Alexis that eggs came from the store. "Nope they don't, I've seen them come out and sometimes they have poop on them"

Of course that warrented a trip to the office but Teva wouldn't let me go with her because I wanted to take a hen or two for close inspection of an "egg hole" in them.

Alexis gathered her first eggs with me when she was about two and when she is here always helps me take care of the birds. Probably knows more about them then most of our educators do, cept those here on the board of course.

Quote: that is wonderful to hear, slow is best, always thought it would be interesting to get in their thoughts- what they think of that world they are peering at and then your maran landing in the middle of them! too funny!
Tonight Teva had been home for just a few minutes when she heard a loud crash and went to investigate. Sure enough someone hit her work van.

Five minutes earlier and Teva would have been sitting in the van doing her paperwork to end the trip that she had just came off of. Thank God for small favors.

I really wonder just how fast the gal turned the corner? And she had to have turned because it it a "T" intersection.
she had to have been traveling pretty good speed! had a similar situation in high school, we heard a crash- the driver had thought she was on the freeway(calif) and this car pulled out in front of her- ummmm.... we lived on a curvy road right by the beach, she was a tadd snockered and totaled my moms riviera....

spent the day working on a pen for the favarolles, something no one mentioned, those silly things are thinkers, and will figure a way out of anything- found one of the pullets feathers, figured she was done for, found her hiding behind a rock with Tic the black astralorp staring at her

Gary has the outdoor brooder area nearly finished. It is in it's permanent spot and mostly fixed for real, but it was getting late and we were running out of steam, so part of it is just fixed for temporary, but good enough so that the cat and hawk can't get the young ones. So we won't have to worry tomorrow since neither one of us will be here.

So anyone heading to the Blanchard auction sat? Anything really good coming? I keep kickin myself for missing those quail last time... Ahhh well there is always this week! Goin to be hard to not have another one this month - hope to see some fo y'all there and get to meet some more of y'all

it seams like all the dead line for show enterys are at the same time arrrrgggg im ready to pull my hair out with all thise paiper work but seeing dustin show interest in poultry make it all worth it and i hope he has lots of wins this year
Joe - I've got 5 NN eggs that made it to lockdown today. There weren't any clears, but there were blood rings and one started but quit. I should see pipping chicks on Sunday or Monday. I'm happy to hear some of the CL eggs are fertile. I see Cleese dancing for his ladies all the time. He brings them bits of grass and shares the grass hoppers he catches (boy do we have a lot of those around the barn!), so I know he's attracted to his girls. The hens quit laying when daytime temperatures got up over 100. Maybe they'll start laying again this week. I would like to set a clutch of CL before the end of August.

Spent two hours buying stuff for my son for college today. $70 worth of snack stuff

. I'm taking bets on how long it lasts. He's saying it will take about two weeks to finish it all. I've already had takers for 3 hours and another for 2 days. Hahaha!

Well, my hubby's job lasted a whole week. We knew it was probably only temporary but ONE week ... really? Of course he said they kept telling him to work slower so they didn't run out of work for the week. Seems bizarre that people would tell you to work slower and stand around doing nothing but apparently that's what they do. Oh well, hopefully something else will come along soon. I guess he'll have time to get all the garden beds finished up and start working on the new chicken yard and car port.

Geez I wish we had a farm so we could produce enough to sell and provide our own income. That's what we'd really love to do. I guess I'll start picking up a few more chickens here and there so we have more eggs to sell and incubate and try selling some of the babies, as well as breeding both of our rabbits at the same time so we can sell rabbits too. It won't be much but it will be another step toward the goal. Anyone know of a source to sell tanned rabbit skins?

I'm betting more of the 2 day range!

Good luck to you and your hubby on his job hunt! Thoughts and prayers for a quick job recovery!
