***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Sdsknifeworks I vote you go get 3 or 4 chicks from atwoods. Go quick before they sell out!! That poor hen NEEDS some babies!!
Lots of thunder out, wondering how far away the rain is. New meds I started this wk have curved my pain greatly. Make me feel a tad tipsy at times, hope it all balances out & I can get back to normal!
If she isn't "broke" by Monday I may have to try that. I'm not real crazy about adding young birds right now but I may not have much of a choice if she won't give up. My wife won't be very happy at the prospect of MORE birds though. I'm not anywhere near the numbers of birds that most of you have, but at 8 I've already doubled what we agreed to when I started this project.

Hello everyone!
It has been so long since I have been on that I almost forgot how to find the thread. How are all of you and your birds? I am working most Saturday nights so i dodn't get to talk much "Chicken", except for Jack and sometimes Elie Mae.
Hey Mary Jo...long time no see...so glad to hear you are working. Sure have missed your stories!

Delilah's eggs began hatching today. So far there were two fully fluffed and one just zipped when I checked. Two were zipped but shrink wrapped and had died. There were 5 eggs left. Going to go back out to see how the rest are doing.
Be back in a few.
Ok...I'm back now...the last chick that zipped is fully fluffed now and so far there are still only the three hatched.
Delilah is a very attentive mom and is cooclucking to her chicks. The 5 eggs are still showing no activity yet.
Will leave them under her and let Roger remove any that don't hatch later this weekend while I'm in Wyoming.

I'm still letting my broodies hatch babes, as they are in the pens I want most and the summer babes were so few and so weak--I'm sure because of excess heat affecting the embryos in early stages. So far, in the last week, they've hatched 11 showgirls and 7 silkies. All seem to be quite hardy. I've noticed in the past that fall babes usually are good ones. I may be sorry in a couple of months when I'm having to accommodate more, but I do have two or three empty large pens.

I think I am getting some eggs at the end of Oct, if so I will be hatching then too, either w/ a broody or the incubator.

Would love to share some of this rain. It started @ 3 AM & the sun has only come out for a few moments today. The duck pen still hasn't dried from the last rain-- it's like a giant slip in slide! Going to throw some hay down tomorrow to curve the mess & allow us to walk in there safer!

The new dog that found us spent all night on the porch & most of the day. He doesn't plan on leaving, don't guess we will ever have an animal shortage here.

Kass your block turned out nice! You will have to google fleece blanket with crocheted edge. Saw lots of tutorials. So basic, but ads a nice personal touch. Watched the quilting show on PBS today-- made me want to sew something, maybe once my meds level things out.

We would gladly take some if it! We've had enough to wet the pavement but that's it.

Broke down and brought home more chicks ... from Atwoods ... nothing big, just 2 wyandottes and 2 black sex link that my daughter picked out. My husband nearly had guineas picked out too but he didn't have enough money on his debit card for them. So I guess we'll be getting guineas pretty soon. Sigh.

Had a good time at the Wildlife Expo. It was crowded but we got there early before it was too crazy. Morgan had a great time kayaking, shooting a shotgun, and doing archery. I enjoyed all of the free samples of wild game ... deer sausage, catfish, and wild boar soup. MMMM.

Hope everyone had a good Saturday!
