***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ok peeps I am going to give away my LF red brown cochin roo. He is aggressive at times, I had been working him some so he has calmed down a little. I do no thave as much time to work with him now since I am starting the add-on to the cabin which i would like to have complete by Thanksgiving weekend. PM and I for my contact number and I will send yo a pic. If nobody wants him I am taking him to the auction soon.
Chuck, I'll take him back. He's beautiful and I feel really responsible for him. I can put him back with his hen, I've got the room. I hate to see him go elsewhere.
Deal? How much do you want for him? Let me know when I can get him and I'll be there!
Edit: Not to mention I only have *1* Cochin boy here and I hate to cut it that close lol

Christina we have been hatching the last few weeks and I don't know if it is the time of year or what. But all the chicks seem less active than the spring chicks. The guineas hatched like wildfire but the chicks just aren't hatching well. I don't know if that is normal for fall or what. I am sure some of it has to do with the fact that the birds had a stressfull summer with the heat and then molting. I may try again in Jan/Feb hatching some more but I don't think I will do anymore late fall hatching again. Mitzi sorry I couldn't meet up yesterday I was going to Piedmont so not headed towards I-40 yesterday morning. Of course got to Piedmont only to find the games were in Elreno, I was ready to take out a coach by the end of that trip. But I am meeting up with her Monday morning in Shawnee to get her one of my cuckoo roos. I know he will be happier there than here in a all boys pen for the winter, lol. Well back to Elreno for more games today at 2, if anyone is bored and has nothing better to do come watch the games they are at the Jenks something or other gym next to the round up club grounds. Shoot yesterday they had tractor pulls going on it the parking lot!!! That is my little guys idea of a good day, haha. We watched tractor pulls between games. I told them every good basketball game should start with tractor pulls, lol.
That is priceless!

Jack is still filling his incubators and his eggs have been hatching later that usuall the last few weeks. Both of our flocks are still not laying well. Wonder if it is our neighborhood. Joe saw a bobcat Friday at about midnight. Maybe the chickens are scared?
I went by a place today that sells punpkins, fancy squash and chrisanthymums and ask if they had any pumpkins that they throw out because thay are starting to go bad or are too ugly to sell. Of course "ugly" squash is all the rage and there are some pretty neat varieties out there. They gave me 5 large pumpkin/squash that they had just put in the trash. All were a bit spotted but fine for the birds and they are enjoying them right now.

I can't for the life of me get a decent picture of my new Spitzhaubens. I like these guys so much :) Out of 30 pictures, this is the best-can you believe it? They're only about 4-5 months old.
Then my 1st Araucana boy with the 3 pullets I got from Joe in June. Then my 2nd Araucana boy with his Brahma/Australorp mix pullet. Those 2 are perfect together, he's so sweet and gentle with her and she follows him everywhere. Every once in awhile you hit on the perfect compatible pair. I'm finally starting to get everyone settled to where they're going to go permanently. Does it ever reach a point where you can sit back and relax??

I have to get some decent pictures of the 6 Orp girls I got from Bill also. They shine in the sun.

Nice pics! I love those black and white ones. They're beautiful. Maybe it's a good thing I don't have more land right now ... I'd be overrun by chicken math with all the different breeds I'd like to have. "Does it ever reach the point where you can sit back and relax?" Oh my ...

If so, I haven't reached that point yet and it doesn't look like I"ll be there any time soon.

Finally got the incubator humidity up to the right level and the temps are staying pretty steady. I'm giving the incubator another 12 hours to make sure we have it all figured out before I move the duck eggs over for hatching. (I have two incubators, we're using one just for hatching since we have turkey eggs still in the other one) We finally have a fertile turkey egg too. We'll see how far it goes.

Someone posted this card on the Heritage breed thread and wanted to know what they were. The answer is Malinois Kalkoenkop or Belgian Cuckoo Malines or Meschels. I was intrigued and found that there are two possible sources here on BYC...a lady in the UK and a possible breeder in California. I've emailed the person in California to see if she still breeds them.....
Feathersite.com has actual photos of the birds....
