well, i have read alot of different suggestions, from cutting and cleaning out the infection- but if you catch it early- i did one today, what i do is make a poultice of sugar and bentadine, bandage their foot with it daily for 4-5 days, it helps bring the infection closer so when you scrape the scab off, just push it a little and the infection (core) will pop out, then pack it with neosporin and bandage it. What i do bandaging is a gauze, then vet wrap then ducktape- the longer you wait to do it, the more chance of it going septic
Pecan season is upon us...cleaning up under trees and mowing under them in prep for harvest takes a lot of time. Then, the man that harvested for us last time sold most of his equipment and won't have time for us....so we have been picking up pecans by hand.
We took 160 pounds in to have cracked and blown and now in the evenings are picking out the nut meats while watching some tv. Sure are nice to nibble on....but 39 trees with pecans are ready for harvest with more trees to clean up under.
Left our contact info with three people and haven't received a call back. Looks like we will be picking up pecans for a long time.
The chickens enjoy working thru the shells that I throw in the flowerbeds as mulch. They find little tidbits but not many worms this year.
The geese were not happy with me last night when I made them go in their goose coop. But this morning when I opened their pop door, they both were hesitant to come out. And then the gander sure looked surprised when he jumped into the kiddie pool and fell thru the ice.
Although it was 30 degrees outside and water froze, the temp in the hen houses was 36 and the water was not frozen. Still, they bolted out the gate when I let them out to free range.
sorry about your mom mine broke her wrist a couple of years a go i know it is hard on older people to healInteresting few days around here ... my mom fell down the stairs and broke her wrist in three places so I've been pretty worried about that. She's 75 now and she got through recovering from surgery on her foot just a couple of weeks ago, now she's back to not being able to drive herself around or dress by herself. Sigh.
And thanks to our rooster who alerts us when anything is out of the norm, we found some guy, supposedly reading meters, just walk into our back yard today. (all the meters are outside the fence) My 15 year old daughter was out there at the time and he tried to block the door so she couldn't get in. She picked up a piece of cane we use for herding the birds and he moved back pretty quick and said he was just checking to see if we had a dog, which he could clearly see we didn't through the chain link fence. My daughter ran in the house and got us and when we went out, he was standing on his tiptoes looking in our kitchen window. He ran off down the drive when we got there and then spent a while wandering our neighborhood looking in water meters and wandering around people's house looking in windows. We called the police but who knows if they did anything. I'm filing a complaint with the city tomorrow because if he was a meter reader, he was way out of line not only at our house but at some of the other houses in the neighborhood too.
Baby chick is doing great though! It's eating and drinking and pecking and scratching ... still thinks I'm it's momma but I guess better me than one of the cats.
And the other good thing is our greenhouse last night was 59 degrees while it was 30 degrees outside. Pretty good for a piece of plastic and a rocket stove heater!
that is kind of what i was wondering witch on is the duck egg?Is that a brown duck egg? What kind of ducks do you have? I'm assuming the banty one is the smallest ...
