***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Evening, Okies : )

There seems to be a skunk population explosion. I'm setting a couple of traps tonight. The trap I set last night was flipped, snapped, and emptied. The area around the trap was excavated, leaving what looks like a small crater. I'll put the traps on packed gravel tonight, and I think a few bricks on each one should make them harder to turn over. There's a strong skunk oder along the north wall of the barn. I think Vesta surprised one there, but luckily she didn't get sprayed. Cone-shaped holes have been made around some of the pens. . . more skunk sign. Ever noticed how much a black cat looks like a skunk right at dusk? I'm really, really glad our barn cats come when called. I hope that our visiting stink bombs continue to run away when they hear me. I'd hate to confuse one for the other.

Quote: A pressure canner will come in really handy. Looking forward to your pictures and we really need the moisture...need rain or I hate to say it) snow to bring back out water table.
Sorry to hear you won't be in Shawnee in December but I understand the busy schedule. We went to our GD soccer game today and she has two more on Sunday!

A
AnnaBell at the Chili Auction last night talking about Brenda Butler's wonderful silkie chickens that she was so kind to donate to Oklahoma County 4-H. She just walked up and started talking to a full room of friends and strangers.
Great work AnnaBell

I hate skunks. Had a black cat that would follow a skunk like it was Peppy Lapue in the cartoons. And armadillos dig those same kind of holes.

I`m a few miles West of Haskell and I have been seeing a lot more Skunks along the roads out here recently and even catching a whiff of `em on the breeze every once in awhile but luckily enough no problems so far. I hope your able to get `em under control....Happy hunting!

I`m fixin` to get a few more of these little SDW pullets and I thinking about adding either a Fawn or a Blue Silver Roo to the family. From what I have been told, it works like the Blue gene...Fawn or Blue Silver to Silver gets 50% Silvers and 50% Fawns or Blue Silver.

Here is a fine example of a Blue Silver Duckwing.

That is a beautiful bird! Do you know Jerry Cocoran? He is a OEGB breeder and the brother of my neighbor and chicken friend Jack Cocoran. Jerry showed some blue silvers at the Newcastle show and did very well. I didn't get to see them though. A Blue Silver hen would be very pretty.

Rinda - Sent you a PM. You'll find the little ones are curious about everything.
Robin - My headlamp arrived, so I'm going to charge the battery and then take your boys off feed today. We're on Thanksgiving break

, so Monday will be their change day.

Two snapped traps. No captured skunks. Looks like two bricks per cage wasn't enough weight. I think these stink bombs are working with a crowbar. Maybe they have special mental powers.

Thank you!

I don`t know Jerry personally but I do know of him and from what I understand that when it comes to Duckwing OEGBs, he is the guy to talk to.
