eeeeeeeee: I finally got my first critter to SIT on eggs. My muscovy has started to sit on eggs in the hen house. I was so jealous listening to everbody talking about their broody hens, etc. and couldn't figure out why we never got any to sit. Well, it helps if you leave the eggs alone. I thought she would start sitting and that would tell us to leave the eggs alone.

Well, someone told me to leave her eggs and remove the hen eggs and she would sit. WOOHOO it worked. We're getting ready to go to Falls Creek tomorrow and wouo

OOPS! I'm still learning how to use this thing. LOL

Anyway, I was so excited that I had to tell someone. My chicks dying is finally slowing down. Usually only 1 or 2 a day now, not 8-10 as it was. Still have no idea what the problem is.

Now we have skunk problems. We've lost 9 ducks and 1 goose this week. We can't find where he's getting in anywhere. We set a trap and nothing. They don't bother anything else but the ducks. We moved them from the pen they were in and he didn't get anything last night.

Any ideas would be very helpful. Have a Great Sunday and for those that go to church have a great worship time.

Yea on the broody. I have only had one so far to go broody. I would like to have a few to go but oh well.

I know nothing about the skunk issue. Maybe set a trap and dispose of the evil critter. I leave my dogs outside at night and so far I have not had a problem at night with critters. My problems are during the day. Bobcat, that is no longer a problem, hawks and crows still a problem, but no little ones where they can get them.

The chicks that are dying, are they on dirt, if so are they getting medicated chick feed? How many are in the one area? How old are they?

We have the chicks in several places. We have them in large tubs, a new hen house on the floor that has been sectioned off, moved them several times, tried giving them electrolytes, antibiotics, medicated, non medicated, etc.

We've not been changing all at once, just trying one thing the watch and see, then trying another. I was just ready to give up, sell everything and forget it. I'm past that now. I just go out every morn and count my blessings if there isn't a bunch dead. I've just chalked it up to experience.

I got my first turken to hatch yesterday. Since we've had so much trouble with the chicks I've lost track who I got eggs from so I'm not sure where it came from. LOL It sure is cute. I don't want to go off and leave my babies but this will be my 23rd year to go to Falls Creek. Life just wouldn't be the same if I didn't go. I guess I'm still too much kid. LOL

When I had chicks dying off I had figured it out.........1 was over crowded and them on dirt and not getting medicated feed. So new batch made sure they were not over crowded and they were on medicated feed and game starter. The game starter just makes them more healthy.

My little guy that had a breathing problem, I put in a bit of AVC in their water and he is doing so much better.

Morning All
Teach ,sorry to hear of the hail damage! New roof time!
We had about two inches of rain in an hour yesterday! Just as things were starting to drain out a little .Now another quagmire!
I banded six little arabian trumpeter pigeons this morning. Have banded close 125 birds so far this year. Took about 3/4 of my rollers to sale yesterday and the last fixe baby ducks. Mom duck is setting again so I figured I'd save some from the second batch.
Trying to thin down like everyone else.Now the heat and humidity may thin down my chicks more than I want.
Four more days and we are Okla bound.Yeepe!

We don't have them on dirt. We use the shavings. I even tried different sizes of shavings thinking it might me that was killing them. However, it wasn't just the babies were losing I had some fully feathered in a pen on grass/dirt and I was losing them there also. I had baby ducks and turkeys in with them and didn't lose them. Weird.

Wow I just read what happened last night, I hate going through those kind of storms they just plain suck!!!!. I am really glad everybody is safe, were the winds strong??. Let an ole boy know if you need a hand with anything OK.

Good morning all, after all the rain we have had, my garden is looking great, we did have some pea sized hail but it did not hurt the garden or anything that I can tell, Dakota is going to Falls Creek tomarrow, I am thinning out my chickens, if you need something chicken wise let me know, I may have it, plan to be done thinning by next weekend, I need to plant some watermelon and pumpkins myself, may plant some field corn for my pigs this winter also, Teach you can plant all the way up to the end of July and first of August around here, I usually put in my fall garden around the last week of July myself. My sweetcorn did not do too good and something (deer I think) ate the tops off of some of it. I replanted but it has not had time to come up yet, so we will see, also need to plant some blackeyed peas!!! Thanks for all the prayers and support, Have a blessed day all, Lynn
