I do allright till I get emotional about something...then I lose my head and can't think. Mike really is responsible for me being tough. When I get flimsy he tells me to "Suck it up." I get mad, but the old boy knows when I'm being a Drama Queen and need to lose it. He's the best.

Hope it goes well for ya at the docs....

No, actually this is our second girl. First will be 5 on July 20th. We were surprised by this one. lol Thanks for the good thoughts. I am just ready. It is too hot to be toting her around like this.

TJ's Na-Na :

Around here, when the chicks come out of the brooders and
hit a pen on the ground, at about 4 weeks old, we go ahead
and start the worming process. Then at about 8 weeks old,
we pull them off the medicated feed and go to layer crumbies.
We maintain the worming process for the duration....usually
once a month.....or more often if anybody starts acting droopy.....
Am sure it's different in other areas, but works pretty well
here in NE Oklahoma.

I think I'll give that a try too, because normally I don't start worming until they're older.

We are getting rain!! It has been dry here lately and I am very grateful for the moisture.
Thanks for the info on deworming. Guess I need to get it in gear. I use DE around the horses and have been putting it in my coop, I'll just make sure I add it to the chicks side of the coop as well. You guys have taught me so much already.

My four girls are SC, but let me look into the genetics of that real quick... if it would be possible to get chicks that were either RC or SC (not some odd shape) I would be very interested

You will get RC chicks. Just ask Monty.

The RC is dominant.

One of my roosters has a more dominant personality than the other one (he's also the biggest and prettiest - go figure

). I'll try and get you some pictures.

Okay

I am thinking I would like to get him (one of them)

One more thing I thought of.... my hens are Light Brown. Do you know if your boys are Dark or Light?

Monty, I know that 6-8 wks. is the time you are supposed to take them off medicated feed.... I would think that must have something in common with your situation... but you are not even feeding them medicated to begin with

But, I've probably lost 25 chicks this year, and I don't think any more than two were from the same causes.... it's a hard business

Al,

The hatch with Tina was a bust. Not a single chick. I am so disappointed. I think I am thru with shipped eggs. If I can't get them locally I'll just do without them. Or I'll buy started birds.
