I now have babies pipping this morning, last couple of hatches havent done very well( my husband like to open bator and help chicks), but he told me on the last hatch that he thinks we need to stop opening the incubator cause some of those chicks didnt hatch! Thank goodness, now my hatch rate should go way back up! So hopefully when I get home from work today i will have new babies running around in the bator!

Yes it does.....

We sold or auctioned 4 laying hens, 3 ee chicks, 2 polish roos and 2 silkie roos

We gained 2 silkie chicks, a pair of oegb's and 11 barred rock chicks

How about you?

I downsized 2 tom turkeys, 13 runner ducks, 2 silkie roos, 2 adult guineas, about 20 assorted pullets and roos that were 3-5 months old and 10 guinea keets. We gained 6 polish teenagers, a pair of Saipan Jungle Fowl, a Malay/nn cross rooster, 20 assorted chicks, 2 silkie hens and one young quail.

Last night was a cool night so I am hopeful that all 20 chicks were accepted by their new mama hens. I had 2 large hens hatch out chicks this past week and their chicks were about the same color as the ones I added beneath them last night. I am counting on the theory that hens can distinguish color, but can't count - to allow me to sneak in extra chicks under them. I gave the Saipan chick back to its mother and I am confident it will be well accepted, but knew better than to try and give a Saipan a chick she didn't hatch and isn't exactly the same color as the ones she did hatch. They are very protective of their own chicks, but will not accept other chicks they can distinguish from their own.

That little rooster is not a cross, he is full bantam Malay and I chose him because of his personality. Puppy dog sweet and he followed me around like one too whether I had a feed bucket or not! He is a late hatch and should be about half grown. If anything like his dad he will be good to the hens too, they never have a feather out of place

Good morning all my fine friends :

I did finally make it home around 3:00 Sunday got birds and equipment unloaded and then had to run into town for some medicine as I came home to my DD & DW who are very sick, the doctor say's yes SWINE FLU, my DD got it from school and my DW from her. I am watching them very closely and will try to doctor them up as best I can, I probably won't catch it that virus doesn't attack the Onry lol. I will be making a longer post a little later with pic's of the big POOPS shindig.

I will say I was so very pleased with the outcome of this fall POOPS, watching everybody having so much fun and meeting interacting with all their cyber friends was very heart warming.

I can see me now, trying to identify that beautiful turkey with the wings spread gracefully over the arm of the holder, searching the poultry books for a turkey breed called "Mine"

Yes, that would be my bourbon red.

Not any more.

Your boy is doing fine at my place and seems to have found his niche. He is a fine looking bird. Rest assured he will have a long life, as he is destined for papa-hood rather than the oven.

His offspring may not be so lucky.

Bah. We wanted to come BADLY, but things kept pushing it to later in the day, and then a photo shoot I had scheduled for that evening needed earlier attention.

On a happier note, OKCchickens.com (and now OKchickens.com) is starting up alright. The facebook page has 90 people already! I hope everyone in this area had a chance to read the Gazette article.
