Okies in the BYC The Original

We just got home from the 2 auctions and then going to Lawton to get some more birds for ourselves and a fellow BYC Okie from a dear fellow auction-goer that is downsizing. Gerald checked the mileage on the truck .... we drove 480 miles today. It'll be nice to get some sleep since we didn't have a chance to last night.

It was great meeting Christina and seeing Ernest again before the Chupps auction, and then we went to Cement and saw Al and Misti and Maribeth, along with other poultry enthusiasts that don't visit the forum. We had a fun day.

Ok, I'd better get off here & get some sleep! Well, I'd better say a few more things ...

Take care everyone!

Cammy, I'm sorry we missed you today. I hope your hubby is OK. Love the guinea pic's and the old car!

Monty, Oh yeah, thanks for reminding us!

Tina, I hope to see you and Stimpy too at the auction on Monday night!

The second picture is an old car that's been out at my grandma's my whole life. Anyone know what it is? I believe the logo on the front is a Chevy.

Me Me I know well anyway I can get very close, it's a 49 or 50 ( maybe a 51 but I don't really don't think so ) model Chevy 2 dr se-dan
If I remember right they were called Deluxe.. I had one just like it when I was 16. It belonged to my Grandpa, and he gave it to me... I always loved that sun visor..
Wow that was a short trip down memory lane

BTW: If they want to clean up that piece of land I would take that car out of the way for them

Wow was off line with SOOOOOOOOO much going on the last few days and I came back and have 6 pages to catch up on. Went to Maud Thursday evening got home around midnight got the new rabbit and turkey (Thanksgiving dinner ) settled then up at 6 to get all animals feed and kids ready to leave for babysitter for estate auction on Friday then Trick or Treat then up yesterday to swap out gost pens and build another, and brought my billy home from his foater home (friend's house till I got the pens situated.) so today I have to go pick up son he is staying with a friend so I could get some work done around here. Does anyone know how long you need to age a turkey after butcher before you freeze?

Carla...How was the Chupps sale? Sue and I were planning on going to it. She woke me up early that morning, but I didn't feel like going. I'm just starting to get over bronchitis.

luvzmybabz...How was the Maude sale? I have not been in a while.

It was ok things went pretty low except for some barred rocks roosters that went for 10 each but they were nice roosters. but there was not too much there bird wise maybe 20 or 25 cages worth and a few rabbits, I got my thanksgiving turkey for $16. There was a 3 level rabbit cage with 2 cages on each level that went for 120 ( I quit at 55) and some dog kennels for hunters that did pretty good with the junk stuff outside. I will probably go Thursday to Maud. Then Saturday I will help Jerry and Misti at the Blanchard. There was a HUGE flemish gaint rabbit that went for I think 32 dollars and a few other meat rabbits. That went really cheap.

I hope you're feeling better. Don't you just hate it when you feel just bad enough not to want to do things you enjoy.

We were disappointed with the Chupps auction. We didn't buy a thing. There was a nice rabbit hutch and dog house we liked that both went for over $100 each, and the chickens we took to the auction only sold for $1-3 each, and at that auction the cage sells with the bird, and if you sell less than $25 worth of merchandise, the commission is 25% ... so we came away with only $5 for 4 jersey giants and a brabanter and 2 cages. The birds all looked good too ... so, I don't think we'll go back again. I guess we should have P.O.d the birds, but I don't know what their fee would be for that. I think we'll stay with local auctions, closer to home. We intend to go to Lexington on Monday, and will either go to Blanchard or Jones for their auctions on Saturday.

Carla I don't like the way they run the Chupp auction the chicken were cheap this month I think the buyers know they have to buy feed until spring for them. You have too many sight seerer standing around the selling items you don't know what he selling half the time. Last month I missed several chickens because I couldn't get close enough to bid. I paid 8.00 for a pair of red silkies and 8.50 for a buff pair of silkies and now I have all color of silkies out their.

Yeah, Chupps auction could use some improvement on their poultry auction. I never could get close enough to bid on any of the birds that I was interested in. They sold some really pretty young white and pied peacocks for less than $35 each there, and I couldn't even get close enough to see the auctioneer, so he definitely couldn't see me trying to bid. I surely don't need any more birds anyway.

As for local poultry auctions, I think my favorite now is the Blanchard auction. It is held in a nice new Ag Bldg in Blanchard, and there's lots of room, it's clean, you can look at all the birds before and during the auction, and the auctioneer is very friendly and likeable, and loves to joke around with the crowd. The owners of the auction, Misty and Jerry, are even BYC Okies! The only bad thing is it is held at the same time as the Jones auction. The thing about going to other auctions is there just might be something spectacular at the auction that I don't go to. Gosh I wish I could be 2 places at once! It's just impossible to run to both of them & see what they have.

It is just too much fun to go to auctions.

Hey Countryroad,

Where do your grandparents live? If they want to get rid of that old Chevy (I'm sure it's a '49 or '50 model), I might be a high buyer on it.

Will you be at the Lexington auction Monday night?

Carla and luvzmybabz...Thanks for your responses. Yeah your right, I felt just bad enough that I didn't want to go 100 miles and fight the crowd.

I agree that they need to have more room at the poultry barn. You can't see what they are selling, unless you are right behind or in front of the golf cart. I look over everything real good before the sale starts, because you can't check them out very well after the crowd bunches up.

I like to go out to the auctions in the field. It seems like most things that I like are selling higher now than when I first started going.

I hatched out a bunch of Barred Rock and Dominique chicks yesterday. I also have some 2 week old chicks. What would these chicks bring this time of year?
