My dad's older brother called me today. The last time I'd seen my uncle was over a year ago at the funeral of their youngest brother

He lives in Aurora, Missouri . He's around 80 years old & has been raising critters all his life and is still raising pigeons & chickens. I gave him some of my Spitzhauben and Brabanter chickens a few years back. Anyway, he wanted to let me know that he recently aquired a trio of Yokohama chickens and would save some eggs for me if I wanted ... gosh, I don't know .... well of course I'd love to get some! Oh, and he was telling me about his pigeons too. I don't know much about pigeon

Anyway, he said one of his rollers can roll 134 feet? I guess that's good? He also has some really rare pigeons that he said are called Starlings? I wish I'd had more time to talk to him on the phone but I had to feed some critters and get ready for work.

Too bad I've never lived near my uncle ... I guess I'm the only one in the family that takes after him with all the critters. I wish I had the opportunity to be around him more. I guess I need to make a trip to Missouri soon for a visit. I told him I had Blue Laced Red Wyandottes & he said he'd like to try some. So, I'd better take him a few ... along with a cage full of white guineas.

Hmmmm .... maybe I can talk Gerald into making a trip there for our anniversary .... Branson is less than an hour away from my uncle's place.

WElcome Lmark!!!

Glad you found us! Jump in an enjoy all the fun!!

I personally would say that for your first go with chickens you could have a mixed bag to see what you might like! This is a great place to learn about them for sure!

Q, you need to let DW pick them out that way you can keep adding more! LOL. NO seriously aren't you coming down for the Shawnee show??? If you are I bet Monty could hook you up with some wellies!

Big Q : I personally like Light Brahmas alot very good looking birds. My project birds I won't count for various reasons. also I am a real sucker for a good looking mutt with lots of color & lacing. I have 1 blue Orphington that is just stunning, personally i like alot of color.

Glad you found us. You are from my old stomping grounds, well sort of but I know that area well and used to know a lot of people up that way. I was born and raised around Okmulgee and Henryetta.
You might check out the feed store place in Preston right on highway 75. I heard Mr. Waller who runs the place was selling started hens and pullets this summer.
Farmers Feed Store in Sapulpa, used to sell chcikens there as well but it has been a long time since I have been there.
You might also check craigslist for your area and see what is available.
Again welcome and make yourself right to home.

for the young people....and for the "oldies"...........LOL You deserve all
the recognition that's due you guys.

Tony Downing is bringing us a copy of the Eufaula newspaper to
Fayetteville. I know they took several pictures, but don't know
what all might be in the paper.

Thanks, Eulaine!

You'll be first in line for Yokohama's Carah!

Yeah, I'm amazed there's actually a relative in my family tree that is crazy like me ... ok, I guess he's probably not crazy like I am, but he's the only relative that I know of that has lots of critters like I do. I guess I inherited this illness?

If you make it to the Blanchard auction you're likely to run into some of the Okies on this board. I have never bought a pullet at auction, so I can't tell you what to expect to find pricewise - but someone who knows more will be along in a minute to give you an answer. Buckguy mentioned a place in Preston - I've never been there, but I do know that Farmer's Feed in Sapulpa didn't sell chicks this past spring - the local person they used to get them from quit hatching. I don't know if they'll have them this coming spring or not. Ideal Hatchery in Texas is a good hatchery that supplies the Oklahoma Atwoods and Tractor Supply stores with chicks in the spring and fall. If you're looking for show quality chickens, though - go with a breeder (there are lots on here) instead of hatchery birds. The hatcheries breed for egg production and meat, but don't pay much attention to breed standards.

Now I have a "foo-foo" dog after my animals! The new neighbors have a poodle type dog that excaped twice today and both times wound up in our yard! The chickens are okay, but one of my poor Holland Lop rabbit was the dog's "new toy" during his second escape! The bunnie's okay, and the neighbor is "sorry"... but this better not happen again

I sure wish I could go to the next Blanchard auction, or even the Fletcher auction, or the Cement auction ... or the Chupps auction. I think I'll be forced to work MANDATORY OVERTIME all weekend long though
