Big Okie,I have had the gastric bypass and I lost 220 pounds and it was done over six years ago. And the most I gain back and lost again was 20 pounds. It saved my life. I would do it over again in a New-York minute. I think if you are thinking about this, here are some question you need to ask yourself.
Why do I need it?
What do I want to see come out of this?
Are you willing to follow through with what it takes to use this tool?
Why do I eat and when? Stress still starts me looking for chocolate. But now I eat a bite or two not the whole family size bag. I have learned it OK to eat a half of a kids burger and toss the rest in the trash. It was hard for me to learn that because my family were clean plate people.
It is a tool not the answer and you have to get your mind lined out that it a part of the journey not the total journey. I have a friend that had it done and hates it. She never lost but 50 pounds and she misses the food. She says food is her whole life and she wishes she never let her doctor talk her in it. So, think it through and make the choice for yourself not because someone else thinks it what you should do.
It means taking vitamins the rest of your life. Getting a B 12 shot once a month and some have to have them every other week, like I do. I would love to use the under your tong stiff but my body doesn't handle it right.
It means you work hard to get the protein in everyday and I am the worlds worst at not doing that. To me eating just a job now and there days I don't eat and that bad. I mean eating small small amount several times a day. I am lucky I have not strecthed out my pouch it's still 4 ounce.
But I would not be here if I had not done it. The doctor told Don I had two years to live. T hey were standing outside my CCU room at the time. I was in ICU or CCU every three months at that time. I had CHF stage 5, I was on 14 medicines, now my CHF is a 1 and I take 2 pills plus vitamins. I am out of my wheelchair and can chase my grand kids so I think if it what you want done, it's a great tool. And if my CHF gets worse I have at least had these years to do things I want to do. Like running, horseback riding and my next thing is Skydiving.
But please research it,talk to others that had it done and pray about it. If I can answer any question you have just PM me so I don't bore others. I have a couple of on line site that might help you and I belong to a wonderful support group.
