i know folks will freak when they hear this from me but...the birds from the store are better than wild ones any day...everything else should come from the wild but turkey is a nope! Although backyard ones are better than store ones!

I agree Teach, domestic turkey is better than the wild ones. When I roasted Jared's from last spring, the legs were like rubber balls. And yes I did cook it right.
I have had fried wild turkey breast and it was very good. But pretty much anything fried is better than roasted.

I'll be there. I'm going to try to unload some of these turkeys, although NN's report on the Jones auction doesn't bode well for us. I had assumed things would be the opposite with folks scrambling for some last minute turkey deals. I have had requests from locals who want a free range bird for Thanksgiving, but it wouldn't be legal for me to butcher it for them. Haven't applied for my exemption yet.

Consignments start at 4 and are supposed to be done by 5 when the poultry stuff starts.

So what is on everybody's menus for Thanksgiving? Oh by the way, on yahoo they are saying that pumpkin will be in short supply this year due to the rains we had. So if you want to make pumpkin pie and use the stuff from the can better get it now.

Hey Sooner, Did you guys get storms this morning? It looked like it on the radar. I am hoping it didn't rain much at the hunting place. I don't have 4WD and I don't want to walk any more than I have to.

Hi, Henny. They are Royal Palms. The Bourbon Reds are all keepers this year as I try to start my own parent flock for next year. RPs are a bit on the small side for that sort of thing.

I have a beautiful young Narragansett tom, but he is headed for the table. Nice little 20 pounder. I've never had heritage turkey for dinner, so I figure this is my chance.

Thank you Carah...I've been pretty sick. Been going to specialist and couldn't convince them that "I am sick". The doctor couldn't see past the fact that there was more going on than just an overweight lady that he is sure my cough is from acid reflux. I kept telling him that I was sure it was more than that but all he did was harp on my weight. I certainly didn't need him to tell me about my weight...I have to look at it every day in the mirror. It was like some great revelation to him that he needed to tell me about it....it certainly wasn't news to me.

Anyway, I've had this "cough" for ever and finally 10 days after seeing the doctor he finally said that there was a secondary throat infection going on. DUGH!!!

I'd been trying to tell him but he was positive it was "just acid reflux". So, now I've been off work all week...finally getting better now that he put me on 4 meds.

I hate doctor's like that. You know when something is different with your body yet they only deal with what they see......Did ya give him a few words to let him know to move on and look for something else.

I am glad they finally did something about it. I hope you get to feeling better soon! Don't stay gone so long!
