I have 40 watts in mine now that it is so cold. I will go back to the 25 when it gets warmer during the day.

As for p-nut butter, you might look up the suet cake recipe on here. It uses peanut butter along with other stuff to make a treat for them. I made some the other day & plan to put them out today when I get home.

THEY WORKED WONDERFUL!!!! Except where my DH didn't wire the bucket to the fence and the darn roo turned it over trying to roost on it instead of getting on the real roost. LOL

I am going to make a few more and place them everywhere. When I went out to check I was shocked at how the water was completely thawed. I was expecting the water to be slushy. And that was completely outside in the open.

I would advise anyone to make them. They have their Christmas marked down at Wal-Mart so the tins were only a $1. The problem I had was finding enough light kits.

I Went out and hauled waterers out and got them scrubbed up and disinfected before the big cold front. Have done most of my chores and some laundry..... Made some scrambled banty eggs with an english muffin for breakfast... then it's house cleaning time. Gotta be outta here by 1:00 to take mom in.

Hope y'all are doing okie dokie!

OOH! forgot to add, having a Maribeth cocktail with breakfast...I should be able to leap tall buildings in a a single bound!!!

The only issue I have is running an extension cord out to the coop. My daughter's dog is a little 20 lb pat rat dog (some kind of scottish terrier/mutt mix) and I'm afraid she'd chew the line. I'd have to figure out how to run it from the house to the fence without her getting to it, then run it down the fence to the coop. That's a long way.

edited to add, my daughter doesn't have 20 dogs, she has a 20 POUND dog.

I'm using mostly 40 watt bulbs, the long slender ones like for a chandelier light. I got that idea from Carah...she thought with the bulb being longer it might spread out the heat better. I had a couple of waters a little slushy and I think it was the two that I had to put a 25 watt bulb in. But it was fine for them to drink. I LOVE it.

Hi! I'm new. My name is CityClucks and I live in Tulsa. I have 12 young, extremely fine downtown chickens of various standard breeds who enjoy yelling at me to let them out of their run. They are very spoiled and don't seem to believe me when I tell them that those hawks flying around would love to eat them if I let them out into the back yard.

Now I'm going back to catch up on what's been happening with you all!

Monty...there's nothing to making them. I got all the supplies rounded up and we did 7 in just a short while the other evening. The hardest part was finding enough light kits. The problem was I live in Claremore and our supplies are very limited. Wal-Mart holds the market on our shopping and if they don't have it we're out of luck. I even went to Lowe's, Atwoods, Ace Hardware. Finally Wal-Mart got some more in.

We just laid everything out and got started. They really are easy to make after the first one.
