Okies in the BYC The Original

My stepdad has been on the roads this morning in our area and said the roads arent that bad, we got enough sleet to give some traction.




OK, If I stop posting it is because I fell out of my chair. Carl decided I was in enough pain he brought me 1 shot of tequila and 1 wine cooler(mikes lemonade) to drink. I took the shot and have had half the wine cooler and am already having trouble typing( that is sad by the way, shows I really dont drink). On the bright side, my back is already slowing down on the pain, I havent tried to move yet, but just sitting doesnt hurt as bad.

Well, it has started snowing very hard here. I am SOO thankful that I have those 5 gal. feeders and they are really easy to make. I have to re-do one since I didn't get the holes quite big enough so the feed is clogging up. Got to fix it.

Sounds good to me... I have a waiting list for most of my chicks. If I take them from her after they hatch will they and her be ok? Will she go back to laying after that?

As sad as it is, I'm actually glad they canceled the Cement show. I sooooo wanted to go, but with all the icy roads and power outages, I didn't know if we would be able to make it. (Plus, the place we were going to stay the night is shut down)
I will be anxiously awaiting to hear when it's rescheduled!

Once she has hatched the chicks, you can take them from her and she should go back to laying fairly quickly. As long as she is brooding chicks, she won't lay. The chicks won't care whether they are brooded in a metal brooder or under a hen. They are sort of fickle that way.

Hey guys, Still no power for Elgin... A neighbor had called PSO and they said worse case scenario is that by Monday some folks may have power back on... we are okie dokie with that... I am just concerned for the elderly folks we have living over here... Jason and a neighbor grabbed as many gas cans as they could to go find a gas station open with fuel to fill them up for the Generator... We are going to alternate our generator with our neighbors so they can heat their homes up enough to not be freezing.

I have never had it cranked up past 70 before in my house I always keep the heat at 68 but I guess with no power I will have to sacrifice and run the heater as high as I can before we move the generator to one of the 2 neighbors we will be helping out..lol

Are you guys still getting snow? we have had snow coming down all morning its light so thats good wouldnt want it to be to heavy for more damage than is already going on with the trees. Anyhoot I am going to be bop on off of here here is a few pics of our place at the moment.
