They certainly look content. I hope you ended up with the 4 hens and 2 drakes you wanted.

I am trying to identify the gender of the rest of those I have so that I can let the hens free range after I NPIP test them. I have runner ducks also and don't want to end up with mules by allowing the drakes to free range with the runners. (I think that is the possibility from any runner duck eggs hatched after Muscovies are mingling with them, am I right?)

Happy Fourth everyone. WEnt to church this morning then stopped by the home where wife works, then wally world. I picked up all the thinghs for homemade ice cream to take to the daughters later for cook out. Well the motor deciced not to work on the freezer,so I had this brilliant ideal to put a drill on the shaft and crank it vthat way. There is a reason that the motors lock down on those freezers! If the lid isn't locked down the centrifugal force pushes the ice cream out from under the llid! At a high rate of speed!! Now that the kitchen is clean again I will go to the store and buy some ice cream to take over there! Chickens!

now that sounds like something we would try!!

The new ducks are getting over their initial shyness. I put a wading pool into the pen today, and they each had a nice long bath. I think I'll empty the little pool tomorrow and put the medium pool in the run, which is a little larger, so that they can actually swim.

they are so pretty! they look like they are smiling for the photo! what is the one in the front??

now how did we spend our fourth?? i spent it making a run for the ducks, who were still down in the pond, went down and poser(goose) decided enough was enough and came right to me, the others just had a conference about it, after many trips back and forth i almost had them back to the pen when firecrackers went off, back to the pond they went, meanwhile poser is half honking for them, and following me around. So dave goes down and i am coaxing them back across the dam with popcorn and he comes up behind them and angel and the niblets get herded back to the pen, susyQ the khaki jumps back into the pond, so hopefully she will survive the nite and we'll try again tomorow. How big does the run need to be for 4 ducks and a goose??

The duck in the front looks like a female Muskovy to me. The Muskovies come in all colors.
Depending on whether the ducks are in the run all the time or just at night, I would think a run that is 4x8 would be sufficient for 4 ducks and a goose. Others who have raised geese may have a better opinion than myself, since my only experience is with runner ducks and now, Muskovies.

That ad may be the source of the peachicks that Muesky has in her "brooder" room. She bought 5 yesterday from someone located in Cement.

No this is not the same person. They guy I got my peachicks from is the one who runs the Cement auction. The person is located in east OKC. I think I need to make a phone call in the morning.

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th!

Gerald - Congrats on the award, the parade looked like fun.

Carla - You are an inspiration, to go to an auction and get two trailer loads of stuff for what you brought to sell is awsome.

Les you knew if you put a link on craigslist that had anything to do with peafowl I was going to be all over that. I just bought 5 last night but maybe an even 6 or 8 maybe in order.

Just to let everyone know I came clean with Uli about the peachicks and surprisingly he was excited about them and thinks they are beautiful. He is also excited about Piaget's new man, who I will be picking up the first Saturday of August. He is a purple silver pied and is just gorgous. I am hoping it will be love at first site for the two of them.

Well our 4th dinner party was fun. Grilled veggie burgers and hotdogs for me. For everyone else I grilled brauts and steak. Had baked beans (vegaterian), red skin potato salad, cucumber and tomato salad with olive oil and basmic vinger (Yummy!), a veggie tray with homemade ranch dipping. I made black currant tea and peach tea to drink, both with real fruit juice in it. Man is that refreshing. We were all to full to eat the watermelon. Guess I will be stuck eating that later today.

My friends brought the steaks which Uli throughly enjoyed since I almost never buy the stuff and he does not know how to fix steak, so needless to say Uli does not get such castings often.

After eating still we were all about to pop we fired off fireworks for about an hour to wrap the evening up. It was a lot of fun.

Unlike Al who torments everyone with pictures you all are just going to have to visualize what a great meal we had.

It is getting late and I have some cleaning to do before I go to bed. Everyone have a great night.

Feel free to let me know if you acquire more peachicks than you really want. I might be persuaded to help you provide some with a home.

I would particularly like black shouldered peahens.

First thing this morning I am going to put two hens that hatched out chicks yesterday, into cages with their chicks. I am also going to wrap hardware cloth around the bottom of a cage that has two malay mamas and the chicks they co-brooded, so the chicks can't keep getting out between the wires and driving the mama hens crazy trying to "talk" them back inside the cage.

I want to go to the Lexington auction this evening. I went back and did a "cut and paste" of all the instructions given by SJarvis, YonderOak and Muesky and will try to figure out how to get there after I print out a detailed map of the Lexington area. Anyone else planning to attend?
wee.gif

Edited to add: from a combination of the instructions, it appears that the auction is on Flat Armadillo Rd, somewhere between 84th and 120 the street, but closer to 96th street.

Good morning! Since today is a State holiday are you doing projects around the house or are you on an "official" job site?
frow.gif

I had planned to head to a new job site today but can't get down to the shop to get tools & equipment loaded, it's just way too wet and soggy and my 4X4 is on the fritze in my work truck. Plus Laura's chest cold is getting worst so I may have to take her in to the doctor today if she wakes up and still feels bad, Plus with her out of commision I may have to shuttle Alyssa to something or another.

This was on a Yahoo group that I am a member of... it may be too far away to be of interest to anyone on here, but I just thought I'd pass it along

I have 2 red naked neck cocerells for sale $3.00 each. I am located in Easter Kentucky (Breathitt County). Contact me for further information. Thanks!!

Good Morning

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend... Now it back to the grind. House cleaning for us... to wet and soggy so far to go pick up around the yard from the roof Job... But YEA its done now all we gotta do is get gutters put on.

Over the weekend we lost more of our baby giants and a few of our RIR babies... When the snake incident happened we moved them into the coop but into cages that werent exactly secure with tight chicken wire around the top and well I think some of our big chickens pounced on a few since we lost 7 babies.

How is everyone else... Yall seem quiet... is everyone recouping from the fire works or what?!
