Sad news from the coop tonight...

I had just come downstairs from checking the incubators when I heard a large boom. My first thought was INCOMING!, something that I'm (unfortunately) all too familiar with. My second thought (when I remembered that it might be hot, but it's still just Oklahoma) was the propane tank! After rushing outside, I realized it was the neighbors trying out what sounded like a large caliber rifle, followed by several smaller ones. No big deal, we all have guns and like shooting them. I went out to shut everyone in for the night and fill up all the water jugs, when I looked in on our Buff Brahma bantam trio. There was one of my hens, stone dead.

They've been stressed by the heat, of course with all those feathers, and I had been out there about an hour earlier to check them. I think the sudden burst of loud noises caused her to have a heart attack. She was still warm and limp when I picked her up, hoping that maybe she was just dazed. Alas, it was not to be. I have some of her eggs in the incubator right now, and hopefully in a few days I will have some of her chicks. Very sad tonight at the Francis homestead.

You have found a wonderful group of folks, some of whom are addicted to hatching eggs, acquiring poultry and attending poultry auctions. Since addicts tend to be enablers some of may try to get you addicted to the same things we are addicted to. So, what kind of chickens and/or other poultry do you have and what would you like to acquire?

My wife Sally and I (Allen) have several sets of standard and bantam cochins, seramas, one set of brahma bantams, and call ducks. Then we have our "pets" such as the toulose geese (mine), crele polish chickens (Sally's), and Malay & Malay/Assil chickens (our boys think they are cool). Our middle son broke out and got D'Uccles. Then we have the workers on the place; the buckeyes. We have quite the ecclectic group

Yeah, it used to not do anything to me. You can become allergic to it if you are exposed to a lot of it...so don't be silly and go out there and start pulling it up barehanded because it doesn't do anything to you. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

i never had a problem with it, i think its cause my mom ate some when she was little, and for some reason passed on an immunity... never figured out how that works..

My day was good ran some errands, did 2 appraisal's, I will go to the lake on sunday. I plan to raise some cain with my boy's Teach & Monty tomorrow somewhere in this great state and it will be on then well into the evening. Going to see the Stimpster and Family maybe with the guy's and then maybe hit the auction and find a good place to belly up to the feed table. Plans are somewhat vague but promising with plenty of time for flexibility.

Sounds like your weekend is full of good times. Please give Stimpy our best and let him know we love him.

Oh..I forgot - please tell Teach & Monty I said "yo." Just kidding - love them too! (but of course you're my favorite, Al...)
