Monty, are any of those pullets naked necks? I'm in need of a couple. One of mine had it out with a game hen and lost, so now I need to replace her with two.

Did I get my chicken math correct? Oh yeah, any color but black please. I have enough black turkens.

Thanks Grace. I'll make a point of tracking him down to say

next time I see his name on a cage card. DD wanted to take home his modern games.

Yeah, I remember. Still think about the blues too.

I'm so glad she won though because the judge at our 2 little fairs didn't know squat about birds and he didn't like her in particular.

Looking forward to the next POOPS!

Weather's been pretty brutal here. Same I think for everyone else. Heat, heat and more flippin' heat.

I sent Barnswallow a PM already LOL I hate to see a fellow addict downsizing it's tough I know but, I would be interested in up-sizing some LOL Still trying to get the wife interested in the birds more and she likes the duck and geese so maybe thats the best way to get her addiction started, I know that does sound bad doesn't it LOL

That is the first thing you learn at the PoultryandBees' "School for Enablers".

"Expose Them to Their Likes" is the first chapter in her "Intro To Enabling" textbook.

Fall enrollment starts soon so don't hesitate to sign up.

It works - my hubby come to Blanchard auction in a separate vehicle than I do. He gets too bored to sit through the whole evening because he doesn't buy birds. He has to see all the different kinds of birds though.
Since the last auction he keeps talking about the silver duckwing roosters. As he becomes educated on the different breeds and colors he is becoming ensnared in the bird collecting web. ha!

Chicken Math? - I like it!

Just a reminder to those Okies out there who, like me, don't get your "new and different" chicken fix often because you are too far away from or don't have time or are too lazy/afraid you'll lose all control of your bidding hand to go to auctions: The Tulsa State Fair Poultry Show is a FANTASTIC place to see what nice poultry of all species and breeds look like. You think the Buff Orpington hen in your yard looks nice? Wait until you see a show Buff Orp... If you are new to all the different chicken breeds and colors you can get an education - there are so many gorgeous, different birds at the shows. (That's where I learned that Lemon Blue is not just a pie.) That's also where I fell in love with Call Ducks (unrequited, since they are purportedly too loud for me to have in the city - but SOOOO cute!!). If you are an "old chicken hand," it's great to go to the show and find someone to root for (I suggest rooting for fellow BYC Okies, like the TJ's Na-Na group). If you happen to be feeling snooty, you can secretly laugh at the non-chicken/soon-to-be-chicken people when they first see a Polish or a Silkie - or a Turken ("Oh my gawd, Ethel! What IS that thing?!")

It was watching baby chicks hatch at the Oklahoma City State Fair (the ONLY chickens at the Oklahoma City State Fair) that made me want to get an incubator in 2001. My son and I spent 2 hours watching them hatch.

If you miss "fall enrollment" I am happy to discuss "enabling" techniques at any auction I attend.

Cuban, I totally agree with your "chicken math" which is probably why it is taking me several hours to feed and water chickens right now - since I practiced my chicken math at some recent auctions. In my case, chicken math goes like this "they are only 25 cents each? Of course I will take all of them" (feel free to substitute any value for 25 cents up to a dollar - I start "thinking" about it at a dollar each)

Good evening folks. I just got home from work and am now fixing dinner. My feet are killing me and I am tired. I am taking it easy tonight and just making a boxed meal. Andrew and Jordan should be home soon. They were taking care of the cattle for the evening.

I want to be Enabled P&B oh wait you and muesky already did that eh? 28th is the next auction eh? Guess I better start saving up now So I can get my fix. More Cochins please!!!! (gosh I love my trio they have to be the sweetest birds in the world next to carla's White Silkies I bought.)
