Just visiting for a few more minutes before I head to bed.
I made Dean go out to King's feed in Harrah this morning to get feed, then I unloaded 30 bags this evening out of his truck. He unloaded the feed for the big animals. Hope a ton is enough to feed all the chickens, turkeys, ducks, other fowl, rabbits, goats and llamas this month.

You are right about the snapping turtles the ones Buster most likely has are the common ones, Alligator snappers are considered native to Oklahoma just like alligators are but they are only rarely found in the southeast corner of the state, Your turtles are the Red Ear Slider. Sliders are probably the most common turtles in Oklahoma they are the ones that used to be so popular in the pet industry until the cases of salmonella brought a halt to the sale of them and actually it was just the sale of those that are under 4 inches but a 4 inch turtle isn't as cute as one the size of a quarter so you just don't see them for sale anymore, The cases of salmonella came not from the pets being carriers like most people were told but from not cleaning out the water when it was fouled from food and poo and such kids would pick up the turtles and then not wash their hands and got sick from it, It was the pet owners fault but the Red ears caught the blame.

I tried to watch the 5:00 news from Channel 4 and although it mentioned raising chickens as a new popular thing to do, the video quit before it got to that part of the newscast - after I had watched it for 20 min.

Morning all. Quick note, Both of my Dom hens are setting about 10 eggs each, lost one of my White Leghorn chicks, I think it suffacated from piling! Have to go to work now, have a great day all!!!! Lynn

why is your cat afraid to go outside?

I have no idea, she use to go outside all the time but now you would think the boogy man was out there. She is just starting to go out alittle at night but it take 30 mins to make it out the door because she has to check everything.

hi guys- got a quick question- think i know the answer but checking anyway- some of my gals are bare backed (they have beautiful aprons on from Coral)and am guessing the mites are back after looking a couple of them over- bathing and dusting today- should i be doing the ivomec drops monthly like frontline? and bleach the coop or spray it down with ivomec?

thanks!

Sure is slow on this thread this morning. Must be a nice day outside. I was outside feeding and watering and moving ducks around this morning at 5:30 when some of y'all were trying to get enough coffee to come to life.

Robin - I don't think bleach will kill mites, but am not sure about the best method to get rid of them in the coop. Many years ago, I read that the mites get up in the wood joists of the coop and come down at night when the chickens are roosting to feed on them, which make them difficult to erradicate.

In my opinion, the only thing faster than a guinea keet is a quail chick. Small and hard to grab. Keep in mind that if the guineas have been in that run for a week or so, they will likely come back this evening when it is time for them to go to roost. . . . . particularly if you haven't terrorized them by chasing them all day with a net.

no net chasing here ... ha ha they appear to be sticking by the other chickens out running the yard.. we were letting them free range since Jackson died we have been keeping them in the run(chickens) in case the other neighbors dog decided to jump his property line into ours... but the wind really gets to blowing and the run door blows open letting them all out as if they had been in jail..

When we move the coop to the back pasture and put into place better fencing and what not.. them chickens and all fowl or poultry will have pretty much the whole back property to run in...
