Well I lost a rooster today. No idea what happened. I know he was in with the gang yesterday, eating, drinking and making merry with the ladies. Today I found him dead on the ground.
I don't know if it was natural causes or if one of the EE ladies killed him in a fit of jealous rage after she caught him with that floozie Lizzie Leghorn.
Well one less to decide about, although I had already decided to keep him because Jared liked him.

My first eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I checked the Mille Fleur cochin's coop tonight and - 3 EGGS!!!!!!!!
Two of the pullets were hatched in early June, that makes them 6 mo. old. I wasn't expecting them to begin laying since it is December and they are just 6 mo. old and cochins. (I understand that cochins aren't necessarily "early birds".)

After cleaning the horse barn and tucking the horses in, I always go check my chickens and pull my Polish hen out to put in a separate cage. She gets her top notch feathers all pecked out if left in the coop with the other birds. So every night, before I tuck her in to her cage, I tuck her in my jacket and sit down in the feed/hay/blanket barn and give her and one or 2 of the barn cats a snuggle. My husband just doesn't get that she really enjoys and relaxes during her snuggle time and doesn't mind a cat on my lap. I insist on being neutral territory and I feed the barn cats well enough that they really aren't interested in my chooks. Actually, they share their cat food

Dreamcatcher has this chicken(topknot) ever layed an egg? I'm asking because if I'm not mistaken "He" isn't going to! It sure looks like a rooster to me. Polish hens have tight do's,the roosters have long sickle like feathers in their tops.
Guess everyone is ready for the show and trade tomorrow! Good luck in both catagories to all! I have a couple of bantams and some pigeons loaded in the truck for the Kentucky sale tomorrow
Brought my piggy home today. Was only able to get one. The other I was supposed to get was ill and they didn't want to let it go. So this one is really going to be spoiled. Her name is Erica Noel! She is solid white and cute as button . Pics proably tomorrow. I'm kinda in the dog house, momma is not likeing the pig ideal. Good thing my birthday is tomorrow so I can squeeze by!

LOL, well, his/her do usually isn't this fly away, but the kid left him/her in the coop and it got pecked again. I've not had an egg, but he/she isn't very old yet either. I've never heard anything other than a contented 'coo' out of this bird, my other Polish is for sure a roo. This one I have had my doubts about but was giving him/her time to mature so I could find out for sure. Obviously, I ordered 5 Polish day old chicks from the hatchery and only 2 lived thanks to my Jack Russells. My luck, it would be that 2 of the 5 would live and both be boys....

Evening peeps! I am all settled into my room with a good show on the TV & thought I would drop in to tell everyone to have fun tomorrow & be sure to post some pic's for me, don't forget we have the shutterfly account if anyone wants to up load them there......I will try to remember to put it back in my signature line.

Dreams/Okladoodle, I thought the same thing on the polish. All my girls have a very tight rounded doo. Nice chicken tho, consdering they tend to be flighty.

Carah : You go ahead and enjoy yourself too, and get some well deserved R & R.......... to you from us Okies with a smile.
