Ah, Carla, i just saw where you answered my question. We too had a cat once that was very special to us. Sometimes one comes along that just touches your heart and has the perfect personality. Belive it or not I actualy started to guess scottish fold but either way I was close lol. He is a handsome boy and I think its awsome when people adopt pets. I know i breed my dogs now and then but we got a few cats that we "rescued". I got a calico for my daughter who was "saving her money' to buy a cat. The lady at work at a bunch of litters and couldnt keep up with the food. She was always going on about how people need to spay/neuter and look at her. Some saying about walking the talk comes to mind. My daughter and her grandpa took a horse to the vet and a kitten was running around. The vet said he was gonna have to kill it if someone didnt take it

So we got Rosie who is a good cat and doesnt mess with my chickens lol. Then there is Smokey. she is almost a blue colour older female who just showed up one day. I kept leaving food out for her and she finaly tamed down. She is missing some of the smaller front teeth so we belive she is an older cat. She is a sweetie and always sleeping on the square hay bales in teh shop. But for some reason theres still mouse poop all by an old couch in there?

thats right by the hay. Im rambling now lol.

nnbrooder--We've just started trying to hatch and build our chickens up so we don't have any fancy kind of setup. I have them in my back bathroom, in a tub from wal-mart, inside my house bathtub. I have their water, feed on one end and the light on the other end. The eggs came from a lady in Tennessee and she sells all the time on here.

nnbrooder-- I am feeding them chick starter non medicated and putting terramycin in their water. Our local feed store had me to do that. He said the government has taken away the medicated feed and this was what was recomended to do.

Actually, that position is sometimes referred to as "star gazing" but there are several things that can cause death in small chicks, not all of which have a rhyme or reason. I tried to find some information in my Chicken Health Book by Gail Damerow, but didn't find what I was looking for. I will keep searching, but as I recall, that can be an indication of bacteria that was present inside the eggs before they hatched. If you lose more than 5 percent of your chicks, you will want to totally disinfect the incubator and brooder before hatching more eggs. Sorry.

Donna I get medicated feed from everywhere I buy it. Discontinue the anti-biotics in the water and change suppliers if you have to. Using meds constantly like that can lead to resistance of the stuff they may be harboring, like the MERSA that is found in hospitals.

nnbreeder--For real? I just was at the feed store this past week and that is what they told me. It is a very popular feed store and great knowledgeable people there. I wonder why they told me that.

Do you start your chicks out on medicated starter?

poultryandbees--thank you so much for your help. I just want to learn what I can so I can do better next time. I have about 149 eggs in the bators and I need to know how to handle things bette if I can. I hope I'm not in over my head. LOL

That's part of it, being in over your head. I have more chickens than I have houses and sometime some just don't make it. There is a reason even if we don't understand it.

The peeps on this board are a great place to get answers.

Well I have four bags of medicated starter here that was bought late last week. All of it is Evergreen. In a few minute I will post the meds used for Cocci and what you are using is not on the lists.

A have used medicated feed for years for the chicks.
