I will let the experts jump in here, but if they have plenty of fresh water and fresh feed, they should be alright. Be sure their paper is changed regularly, since they will peck at everything and you don't want them to eat a lot of poo.

Here is a site that shows all kinds of chicken poo for your research enjoyment. Chick poo - even from one instance to the next in the same chick - is not consistent. I think you may be seeing the caecel poo, which is one of the more yucky but normal versions, so it doesn't mean there's anything necessarily wrong - especially if the chicks seem active and normal otherwise.

They're on pine shavings and my neice is supposed to change their litter daily, but she hates doing that and I have to remind her and push her to do it... I'm thinking about bringing them back over here so that I can keep a closer eye on them.-

Yes Monty I am very happy! Glad your son is enjoying his stock and irritating you!

Makes you a better person.

Grace I know a guy that hook you up with moderns!

Dachsunds - if you make...I will be there! I gotta met you! Anyone that raises weiner dogs is good in my books!

Type looks good with those Japs. Especially for breeder birds for show. The short leg gene thing is lethal ro something like that...anyways...two really short legged birds gives you dead babies...it is actually funny that the traits you look for in the show bird comes from birds that would stand a chance in the ring!

Looks like they have a little mismarking but again...that actually means their offspring will probably be better!

I got a couple birds from a buddy...nothing like what you want to take to show but the hen is a known thrower of short legs...so I am in the hunt!

If I am not mistaken...Japs are one of those breeds notorious for needing lots and lots of babies just to get 1 okay one...am I right? As far as flighty...if your legs were lie 1 inch long don't you think you would be on guard most of the time

That deserves a picture. How many quail eggs does it take to make a decent supper for a growing boy?

That is a math problem and I was a Journalism/English major.
Let me just say I don't have near enough quail.
He will usually eat four to six chicken eggs for breakfast. Depends on how much bacon or sausage he has with them.

Cityclucks - that was a very helpful site. I have seen many varieties of poo in the hen yard, but never pictures to show what is normal. Thanks!

I am sure that I look really big to them. I also wondered if they had any interaction before me. Now that I know they are skittish anyways, I will just do my best to give them space and only crowd them if I must. They will do better when the other pens are done. Right now they are actually in a pen that was meant for a sick bird or a broody.

Never would have guessed Monty was an English major
