He's crow winged. Duck wing would have a light colored patch on his primaries. I bet the babies will gain more red from the mama, unless the blue dilutes it like the article, that Monty posted, said.

Can I get an Amen somebody!

The concept is facinating, but I had to copy it and send it to myself in an email so I could read it when I had the time to think about it while reading.

Guess all the different kinds of birds makes the world go round....
but.....I seem to be stuck where I am when it comes to the
naked-necks and the show girls........I just can't get there from
here...........LOL

Guess of all TJ's birds, my favorites are the Mottled Cochins, and
I'm really excited about these standard cochins that Pa-Pa
bought.......as long as they aren't "white"......LOL

Have a good one !

I am curious - obviously you love poultry, but you have to be able to support your "habit" by selling some of these or you would be over-run by them. Do you sell at flea markets, particular auctions, on craigslist or by some other means? I mean, how are you able to get rid of so many fowl?

Hey P&B - I have a couple of trios of adult saipans from Ideal, it'll be next year probably before I'll hatch some babies from them. They just started laying recently, but generally orientals chicks are better quality out of 2 yr old birds. It's because they mature so slowly.

Whenever you get some Saipan eggs/chicks, I would love to buy some.

I think I am about done with Saipans from hatcheries.

I went to the Dr. today...stupids gave me a shot in the rear and I gotta take meds for the next 10 day! The evil doers! I have about decided that the cuter the nurse the more it is gonna hurt! Little thing comes in there and says, "I am gonna stick this in your hip (no that would be my butt!). First there will be a little sting (okay not bad). Now this might burn a little (OH MY LORD! Call 911! This freakin' hurts!). Now that wasn't so bad was it?" I fall hit my head on the way down and gotta get stitches! Naw I didn't fall out but I can tell you exactly where that stupid needle went in! Plus I am not looking forward to removing that band-aid! Some places should never have band-aids applied.

Orientals tend to be fragile as chicks. It's just the way they are. They often can't handle the shipping. Too much stress, and for being such big birds when mature, they sure are tiny chicks!

Yeah I got really lucky when I ordered from Myers. Got em all on the first shot....29....This time I kinda knew something wasn't right when the dates got messed up...These things are dinky!! Felt bad for the little suckers. The two are still hanging in there..... But I don't hold out much hope... they are so tiny. They were supposed to re-ship, but I don't know....

Tara... Maggie is yelling at me through the sliding glass door... I swear she is a pet hen. She follows me everywhere and won't let me alone... I love her....

Wow is it HUMID!!! I took 4 wheelbarrows out of my run today and cleaned it up real good.... I am not going to gripe anymore... Carla has more mud than me!!! But my coop is still soggy in the corners. GINORMOUS hen is still setting with an evil look on her face. I ain't touching her.... Except tonight to change her hay... that will surely piss her off good....
