Were would a person find out on how to get certified to be a poultry tester?

Also can a person test there own flock, by sending into a lab etc.?

Valerie, so sorry. Not much of a chance with that size hail.

Contact Marie at the Department of Agriculture 405-522-6139 to schedule an appointment for testing.

The Dept of Agriculture came out on Monday to renew my NPIP certificate. There is currently federal funding for Avian Flu testing, so the Dept of Ag will do the throat swab for the Avian Flu and since they are already there, they will then blood test each bird in a flock your size without additional charge. The cost should be about $10 for the NPIP certificate. My renewal certificate was $5. You can also get a certificate for your "hatchery". Be sure that the incubator is in a separate room than the brooder.

I called Marie. She was very friendly and helpful. It costs $35 to go to their class in June. That is $5 for the class and $30 for the 3 year license. You have to bring 2 birds to class. You have to buy all your own supplies. Marie said many people do the class to test their own birds.

If you just want to get your birds tested, it's $5 per year. The first year is the same price as the renewal. You have to wait about two weeks after requesting to be tested before the state is actually out. If you want to sell hatching eggs, you have to get a hatchery certification. It doesn't cost anything for this.

I'm on the list to for them to come out and to go to the class in June.

Hi folks,
I am just letting everyone know that I may not be on here much for a few days. I am having knee surgery tomorrow and I don't know how I will be feeling or if I can get a stiff knee under the computer desk.
So just to clarify about the event. Unless I hear some protests we will try and do it April 25.
We still don't have a name so until someone can come up with a good one, how about BYC Okie Chicken Swap or BOCS. I also thought about People of Oklahoma Poultry Swap or POOPS.
The details as to where haven't been finalized but probably around Lake Thunderbird and Lexington.
I haven't heard any follow up on Blanchard so I guess it is out for now. Let me know if anyone has more info about Blanchard.
Just to get an idea. how many people would be planning to bting an RV or stay at the lake?
Still seeking input from one or all.
Monty

I likes POOPS!

I will camp if allowable with birds or if I can ditch birds somewhere and if I can't then I won't! Sounds like a good time and place and whatever.

Take care of yourself, Monty...

Monty you will be just fine, I think that we can hold down the fort while you recover, I know we are going to have to get chatty though Michigan is closing in!!

If you need some good pain meds I mail you some(JK I don't want to be arrested!!), had my gallbladder out Tuesday and the only thing I need them for is my throat where they tried to tear my hangy down thing off!!!

What about POOPs t shirts?? Whos working on that??? We definately need POOPS shirts.

I called also, the inspector will call me soon and set up a date to come out. Now just to talk the ducks into a pen so we do not have to go swimming to catch them. Also going to sign up for the class.

Monty take care hun call me if you need anything.

6 RIR hatched last week and so far 3 Blue JG's. Loading up the bator again Saturday, barn yard specials this time.

Poops sounds like the name. Sounds good for me. I will be staying at my house at night for the POOPS, IF you have a cage and can keep your birds secure you can put them here as I am like maybe 5 miles from T-bird lake Zoom beach area. Alameda side of the lake. I could possibly put them in my barn also. It is predator proof and weather proof. But they would HAVE to be caged. If anyone needs more info about housing chickens here send me a pm and I will give you my number.

How many people would want a POOPs t-shirt?

I know a screen printer. She handled t-shirts for another organization I am with and did an excellent job. Price was really low. It was for the baked in printing. I could work on the graphics and post the picture. Everyone here can give input and once everyone approves I could get them printed.

Would be funny if we got enough people signed up for the NPIP class to have a BYC only NPIP class. It could be a BYC NPIP class.

So far the ones signed up for the class are:
Teach97
Slightly Cracked
luvs2garden2000
chickensandmore
poultryand bees
Overrun With Chickens
and me

Up to 7!

Just let me know if I need to start working on t-shirts...

Edited to add a class member!

Yeah that would be awesome if we could have a OK BYC NPIP class!!

How about something like this? We could choose a color for the t-shirts or maybe have multiple colors?

Let me know what you think...
