Hi Maribeth,

You should go to the Cement auction today!

Yes, we intend to take lots of hatching eggs to the Cement auction ... EE, cuckoo marans, golden salmon marans, welsummer, jersey giant, silkie, turken, brabanter and spitzhauben. My incubator is totally filled, and I still don't want to start up the other cabinet incubator.

We have tons of baby chicks everywhere too ... so I've got to start rounding some up soon. We'll fill the cab of the truck up with chicks and eggs and hopefully the adult birds will be in the back of the truck, unless that rain I see on the radar gets any closer. I don't know that I want to take a truck full of wet birds to the auction.

what have you got against show silkies.....LOL.
I know this won't help you now, but, get in touch with some breeders (yeah those evil show people) tell them you will take all their DQ birds. Show breeders keep only the best and not all birds produce that many good ones. Things like not enough toes, crossed beaks, etc.
Another option is to aquire a silkie cock and a cochin hen. Those silkie/cochin crosses are even better than silkies.

Just a suggestion that really does not help you right now, but something to think about.

Not just silkies...ALL bantams...LOL!
I will have to put these birds out with all of my standard birds. My standards are VERY large but also do not chase anything. I think they're too lazy myself...anyway, I need a silkie that will be able to see (so crest can't be huge) that can withstand the weather outside (so not too much fluff) and will set. I know the show silkies have "all of the above" so I'm trying to stay away from those...

PouletsDeCajun gave me a name and number for silkies..so here's crossing my fingers!!!

As for POOPS, I want to go! But that is right smack dab in the middle of finals week for me!

What about those Araucanas; how 'pure' are they? Are they tufted (not bearded) and are the rumpless?
Oh Brabanters are very similar to Spitzhaubens aren't they

What kind do you have - Gold, Silver, or Chamois (or I think Cream is the same thing)?

I bought my aruaucanas as eggs from Hinkjc on BYC last spring. I have 2 roosters and 2 hens that are rumpless and 2 hens with tails. Unfortunately none are tufted.

Brabanters are very similar to the spitz except that they are bearded. Mine are cream and gold in the same flock. You'd better get some before I sell them too .... they are very rare!

Can you send me a message and let me know ages, number of birds, and price on those Brabenters. Oh and price on the Araucanas, too.
If I am interested.... okay I mean if I cannot talk myself out of them (

).... and if you were willing to hold them, I would not mind prepaying. You really out to come to Durant once in a while you know

I have a feeling that the auction will be absolutely packed. I hope to get there early enough to ge my birds in somewhere near the middle of them all. I sure better start getting ready now.

GOOD NIGHT !!!!

I think you may be right on the turnout, I plan to bring my own chairs this time, the DW goes to the horse auctions with me all the time, so she is used to the auction crowd. I also think it will still be a sellers market today, for the second month in a row.

For the sake of everyone taking stuff to sell, I hope the prices stuff sells for is sky high!

I am going to refrain and not attend the Cement auction. I am working on my 12 step program to break my addiction to auctions. I made it to Jones last weekend and sold some chickens and rabbits - without buying anything. That was step one.
