I gave up trying to read all the posts. I will catch up later.
Teach, Just to let you know, I got my hair cut. Nothing like the fashion statement you make but much shorter than when you saw me last.
I still have plenty though.
I saw where you cut your hair and wailed.
I'd wail too if I got my only hair cut.

Well two of them are dead now and I don't think Paul and Ringo get along.

Monty,

I wanted to type "ask john hinkley" so bad, but thought it might be in bad taste.

-Stimp-

I meant Mark David Chapman. (Hinkley tried to kill Pres. Ford.)

I have around 50 adult birds in 10 different breeds. I have 65 chicks with nine doxen eggs in the incubator.
I usually keep 40 to 50 adults most of the time but I did have over 100 adults for awhile.

Stimp, I did get in touch with the gentleman I got my WR hatching eggs from. Here is what he said:

That is awsome! They are large breed white rocks. If there are any mixed, it will be Delaware mixed with a mutt. I use that mix for meat chickens. You will know the mixes because they won't be white. The only other possible mix is if my Leghorn rooster bred some of the rocks. I believe those eggs were free of that. A lot of my white rock hatchlings have a a few black dots on them when they are new. Sometimes none, sometimes a few.

BTW, my roo is very large. I culled out several roos to get to him. He is quite a sight. I hope that helps.

I decided that I really don't want a plain white breed again (especially with all this rain/mud we have now!). So, they will all be sold.... just letting you know, if you were still interested

Stimp, for clarification, here is the original message I sent that guy

Hello,
I am not sure if you had heard, but I won the "White Rock and some mixed" hatching eggs that you donated to the POOPS raffle table. (Thanks for donating them, by the way!)
Just wanted to let you know that even after the second candling, every single egg is growing! smile
I also was wondering were the WR large or bantam, about how many of the eggs were mixed breed, and what breed were those eggs were mixed with.

Thanks so much!

Now my husband likes to have things pretty. The horse have to have a beutifull pasture, no mud in the corral... hence I need sand....
He once freaked out about getting mud on the dirtbike...

So I think the chicken counting is just a way of making sure we dont have to many. I did have a shopping problem, maybe he is just afraid that I will switch gears ?

The clay can be good in certain respects, it is very high in concentrated nutrients, buts doesn't hold moisture nor does it drain very well. other soils like sandy loam have poor nutrient value, but drain well and can provide a good root growth room. I like to combine all types, I use the clay as a base break it up well, mix in plenty of loose well broken down organic matter and I add 1 bag of kids play sand to every 10 cubic yds of soil.
