thanks for the suggestion on the baby ducks - I have been trying to figure out how to give them deep enough water that they can eat, without turning the entire brooder into a soggy mess. I will move the baby ducks to a separate cage with a tray underneath it.

My trailor is sitting next to the coop now loaded with wood staring at me saying OK let's get jiggy with it LOL. 35 sheets of plywood, 25- 2x4x12, 25-2x4x8, 3 rolls of roofing, the whole thing is going to be covered on top, except the runs, and at least 1500' of various fencing, wire, chain link, and such. It looks like a mountain of work, should end up with 8- 6x12x8 breeding pens all with seperate long sunny runs. by the time it's all said and done it should measure 36'x50'x8'tall with wire topped runs that total 2000 sq ft.

Grace - those are perfect for quail...I am currently using some I found at an auction for that purpose. Another cool use is to figure out the boys and girls! you can out one in a cage and it still can see its friend so doesn't freak...if you get an egg in a couple days...poof girl...no egg for a week...boy! You don't have to watch for crowing and such!

School is done!!!

I am doing it more for my own selfish needs LOL, it will help me care for them and manage the whole operation better.

Roy :
I guess I could put you in the Quail pen's LOL only if you help me catch these dang snakes hehe.

The fun part is in the builing of it, a big ole cooler full of cold ones, the radio goin, the sun is out and nice and hot, sawdust flying and saw's a buzzing. yes life is good, grunting Man style good LOL.

You know I am not afraid of snakes, but I don't like surprises...a couple summers ago we had this big bullsnake that lived under our walkway by the garage... he would come out at night and warm himself on the driveway...One night I forgot about him and accidently stepped on him...he was not pleased... I thought he was the hose!! Poor guy, I haven't seen him since...I can picture him slithering off...mumbling something about no respect....

We have been seeing too many snakes this year. What makes the snakes so active? Lizards and frogs are really active to. I see the little boomers laying on the rocks all over the place. I am scared to death my kids are going to walk in those woods and get bit by a snake. Last year we had one in their swing set.

Teach, We have quail hatching today.
Any special care once they are fluffed out? They are tiny, what do you water them with? Can they drink out of chick waterers or are there special itsy bitsy water troughs for them?
Itsy Bitsy? That reminds me of a song. The itsy bitsy la la la la la la !

How long do I have to hold them? Six of them will be pretty heavy.
