Grace, thank you- i think he knew he was loved, and i did what i could- my heart is lost to chickens, but silkies in particular- little puddin is on my shoulder sleeping, i think she misses him, and as usual is a motor mouth, a real cuddler. at least he wasn't traumatized - and as far as i could tell not in pain, just worn out. thanks to everyone for helping even though it didn't save him...

Well, I'm feeling pretty discouraged tonight. Since we started this thing we have wanted to raise Bourbon Red turkeys. Last weekend we finally got 6 beautiful, healthy poults from Carla.

Apparently we lost two of them some time last night.

The high winds blew the top partly off their two foot high pens, just by a few inches, and by the looks of one a snake got in and killed it. It tried to swallow it but I think it found it a bit too big and disgorged it, at least from the way it looks... slimy wet from head to about the top of the wings. I assume the snake killed the other one, as well, but I couldn't see it tried to eat it.

Well, at least we have four more, and they all appear happy and healthy little birds. Straw bales are weighting down that top now.

Buster, last year I had eggs disappearing out of the nest. I put a golf ball in the nest and in a few days it was gone. I put another one in and it vanished too. Haven't lost any more eggs since.
Les has mentioned wadding up netting around the coop and the snakes will get caught in it. Hope this helps.

Gerald & I will be in his dark blue '97 Ford F350 with 2 American Flags & a retired Air Force license plate. We've never been before, so we will be looking lost for sure. Quenston, I hope you can make it so we can meet you. I hope to see Chuck, aka Big Okie and some other Okies, including Kathryn, aka Oklahoma Lightning. We're bringing a cage full of turkeys for Kathryn.

OKrobin, I'm so sorry to hear about Spike. I know he was dear to you. If you could make it to the Afton Swap, we'll have some silkies with us.

Buster, I'm so sorry to hear about the turkeys. We had a couple of young guineas last year that happened to also. They looked like they were squeezed to death & all slimy wet. Gerald has had to kill 5 snakes in the pens this year, and I'm sure there are many more we haven't found yet. Boy, the guineas sure do love to eat the snake after Gerald chops them up to bite size pieces for them. Mmmmm Mmmmm Good!

If anyone is going to Afton & needs our cell phone numbers, just send a pm. We'll have our cell phones with us, and hopefully will get good reception.

Well I have arranged things so that I can make it to Afton!!! I will probably end up bringing a load of roosters I got way to many as it is!!! And of course I cant ever go and not buy something!!! Will see you there!!!

Hey everyone, so wish I could go to the Afton Swap but that is a bit to far for me to go. Is there any other auctions going on Saturday? I am going back and forth about buying some birds (chickens vs. peafowl) it is a hard decision since I really want both.
Maybe I will head to Maud next Thursday if there are no other auctions. Really jonesing for a auction it has been way too long.

Well everyone have a good night.

Beth the Jones horse/cattle/goat auction is every Thursday night in beautiful downtown Jones Ok. Just hunt up Teva and she will help you out. She will be sitting on the north side, front row about halfway down in the seats. Her chair will have 146 on it and she will have a long blond ponytail.

Okie how old are they an what is she wanting for them??? How are east, I know the area. Thanks for the safe trip wishes. I have made it here even draggin the 16' trailer I had at the auction. LOL.

Robin sorry to hear about spike. I have lost one of my silkies that would of been the same age (if they are the one's from poops) I never figured out what the problem was but the rest are doing great.....If I hear of anyone with some I will let you know.

Morning all.

I am happy to say that my cochins I got from Bill at poops had a 100% hatch. Mr B is doing his job. I added my blue cochin in with them so I have 1 roo and 2 hens and they were laying 6 a week. Well BB went broody July 1st and sitting on 8 eggs. This has to be the very best hatch I have had so far. It was just a fertility hatch so I threw in some mutt eggs and they all hatched also.

So now I have about 35 cochin chicks under 6 weeks old running around.
