Monty I have one red rooster that is still fairly young so he has some growing to do. The only thing wrong with him is that he has a single side sprig on his comb which is genetic and a DQ if you are planning on showing. He has no bow-tie which is unusual because he is out of a RIR rooster and a black NN hen. I will get my hands on him tomorrow and check him out a little better.

Seems ironic that Buckguy has so many roosters that he is trying to figure out how to make them into hors doeuvres, but he doesn't have the rooster that is necessary for his breeding program so is looking for one more.
Monty - what you need is to find someone who will trade you all your extra roosters for the one homozygous rooster you need.... but wait, that sounds like the game you wanted to play a few months ago where everyone brings their extra roosters and trades and the winner is the person who winds up with the least roosters.

LOL that is funny! Looks like we are up early P&B. What happened to sleeping in when I don't have to work?? We will be heading out this morning, but not to worry I will still be online just not as much. Have a great day everyone.

Hey P&B, I forgot about that game. Does anyone still want to play?

I think I like it better when I couldn't keep up with the posts than now when there is only one post every three or four hours.

Ok Here is a topic.

If you have a specific plan for your birds ie... breeding programs, egg selling operation, producing broilers or showing chickens.
Share your plan. You can be a specific or as non specific as you like.

Besides trying to raise pure Welsummers and Marans that lay a very dark egg, I have a mixed layer flock and sell some eggs to neighbors and friends.

I have two pet projects. One is crossing Gold Campines with Buff Orpington's. My goal is simple. I want to produce a larger version of the Gold Campine or at least a larger gold/buff chicken that has barring.
I have had better success with that this year but still have a long way to go.
NNbreeder, has got me interested in Naked Necks so I have been trying to breed those as well.
I lost some juvie birds to illness a few weeks back but I still have six that are doing well and I think at least five if not all six are pullets.
With the Turkens I simply want to get a large bird that lays a large egg.
A few years back I was at a guys house and he had the biggest eggs I have ever seen from chickens. I mean consistently not just one here and there.
They were all from his Naked Necks.
I would like to have a flock of consistent large egg layers from these birds.
I have learned more about them from Les and a few others on BYC and I must say they are starting to grow on me.
OK now you guys take a shot at it.
Any goals? Projects? Simple or elaborate, it doesn't matter.
Let the others here know whatcha got, whatcha want and your plans for them..

After a few months of being away, I'm popping back in from the cyber abyss. I see that the Okies are still as active as ever. I started looking at the number of pages and there's no way I can catch up so I'll just begin again...

Welcome back, You might want to go back a few pages just to see whats happening. It has actually been a pretty quiet summer on here.

One of my pet projects is the blue barred plymouth rock. I have the stag showing blue barring (one copy of the barring gene), and pullets in solid blue and solid black. Those are my starters, I also have some regular barred rocks from exhibition lines to help straighten out the barring. Along with proper size and conformation, I want to keep egg laying abilities in order to maintain the "duel-purpose" side of the breed.

Then I have my cubalaya. I am working on creating my own line by combining two different lines.

I too have welsummers and black copper marans focusing on dark eggs and following the breed standard for each of the breeds.

We got a lot of rain! And lost power for a couple hours sunday evening!
I have Blue/Black/Splash and White Andalusians, but they are too young to lay. If it's not just the hatching you want to enjoy, I can get you a pair, or trio, or whatever of half-way-grown birds

They are so pretty, I just have too many!
