My deal is to try to get an egg business going. Mike says I am too cynical. I prayed about it for awhile, and got some confirmation from the guy selling my eggs, and another guy who sold eggs before. They told me how great my eggs were and last winter I could not keep up with demand. Then this spring after I invested in layers and coop, the sales fell off really badly. The guy who is selling them says he can't figure it out. Mike says it is because they are cheaper in WalMart. My seller has been scrounging up all these egg cartons for me. I have a garage full of them. But no one is buying the eggs. Then I get an Egglands Best carton in the pile from the seller who is scrounging them up. Who the hell pays that kind of money for eggs?? They are nearly $4.00 a dz. here. I was ticked off. So I have been kinda depressed about it, thinking I didn't hear God at all.... I just wanted an egg business. Then I think, no, I'm just having a dry spell and God is going to fill all those cartons one of these days. I'm fed up and wish I hadn't spent that extra money. Now feed is going to skyrocket come winter and I will have to cover all those extra hennies. So I am doing Ameraucanas for a hobby and for fun, to keep my mind off the egg thing. I just loved Maggie, so I got eggs from the stock she came from, and Greybear's stock. I tell myself I don't care, but I do.

Downburst in Olustee that caused so much damage that Altus Power lineman had to go replace poles...I think this was last week or the week before...I can't believe I got pictures of it...I didn't know what it was until I saw an identical picture in the paper....thought it was just a rain curtain.

Said the hell with it and ordered a new laptop today...Dell was having a pretty good sale...I may just chunk this one after....

I got this one for $1100.00 5 years ago, paid $500.00 for one today that's twice the computer.... Going to use this as a back-up hard drive.

Be patient & take a breath.

When you package your eggs, are you labeling them? If not, I would suggest you make a label and put all the great points to your farm fresh eggs on it. Examples: NPIP certified flock, free range, fertile, tons fresher (store brought eggs have to be sold by 6 weeks after they are packaged, the thought makes me cringe). In addition, mention the eco benefits such as local produced (saves gas) & "100% recycled" egg cartons.

I believe if the buyers truly know all of the benefits of your little treasures they will buy them over the stale store brands.

Also in light of the eggland's best, maybe you should get a little child's stamp and personally "approve" all your eggs.

Just some marketing thoughts that might help your egg business...

Did you get one of those new ones in a bright color that they're
showing on TV ??? Those look super cool ! Keep me posted
how it works for you and if you're pleased with it. I could
read your posts to TJ through November and the first of
December...........LOL

Hey, I like that nest box. They'll get used to it and start using
it. And, trust me, folks will get sick of eating those "cardboard
tasting eggs" and be back when you least expect it. All that
"Egglands Best" junk is hype and just ain't natural.......

Bill's Uncle Jack is supposed to be getting some Khaki Campbell
ducks. Bill won't have a duck on the place again. I LOVE
duck eggs, especially for baking.

I agree... I know people would love to get them but they have to sound like they are getting really good eggs not just some back yard left overs. Branding is everything. Think BIG.. I think if given the right nitch and location they would sale like hotcakes...

I didnt see that last post... My husband is a computer freak as most of you know. We just bought a red aspire one and LOVE it so far. Its on the cheaper side under $300 I think. Not a big harddrive but I own a backup company that is super easy to use. No cd rom.... So we have been using it as the family e-mail, web and music download and seems to work.
